The New York Times Stephen Holden

A supernatural thriller so mechanically inept and lacking in suspense that it doesn't even pass muster as lowbrow Halloween-ready entertainment.

The film is a misfire, which you feel more acutely given the talents of those involved, including director Rodrigo Garcia ("Nine Lives," "Things You Can Tell Just by Looking at Her") and rising star Anne Hathaway.

Turns out to be just another dud in the genre of revisionist mysteries that have been messing with our heads since Haley Joel Osment saw dead people. Only this time, the big reveal doesn't so much twist the plot as snap its neck.

With these actors and Rodrigo Garca's sensitive direction, Passengers might have fared well as a short. But as a full-length feature, it's a long ride to a familiar destination.

Cruising somewhere between therapy drama and paranoid thriller, this middlebrow tone poem aims for ambiguity but often veers into soporific, suspending answers (and often, viewer interest) en route to an ending that explains all.

Thinking Person's Movie by suemarie
I was hooked on this movie from the very beginning. A therapist is counseling survivors of a plane crash. Anne Hathaway is good, but I thought maybe a little young for the part. I enjoy suspense without gore. I know some reviewers have said it is predictable, but there were many surprises, with an ending that was satisfying and moving.

Passengers is well crafted by mooviesrock
Passengers is a well crafted and superbly cast movie with a twist. This movie has thematic elements of death that are woven with suspense and intrigue. It is not an action packed movie but rather takes a well directed guiding hand towards a believable relationship between the protagonist, Anne Hathaway, (Claire), and her patient and love interest, Patrick Wilson, (Eric). It is not until the last third of the movie that the mysterious events are explained or guessed so be patient. It does have emotional elements and a nice ending. There is one sex scene, and although not graphic, may not be suitable for young children. It is overall a nice addition to the fall movie lineup. I highly recommend it for many reasons. The acting alone is exceptional and everything else works to complement the movie.
