With its brainy scientist heroine, and surreal, super-kitsch imagery, above-average Japanese anime sci-fi pic Paprika has a better chance than most Nipponese toons of breaking out of the specialty ghetto by appealing to femme auds as well as the genre's core constituency of fanboys.

Paprika is completely and utterly fantastic! by Jedi General
Satoshi Kon is a phenomenal director! I love all of his works (save for the overly disturbing Perfect Blue) and Paprika is no exception. It's another one of his masterpieces, no doubt about it. This film really challenges the audience to pay close attention and think (gasp!), and it is an absolutely brilliant exploration of dreams. Even if you're not a fan of anime like I am, give this film a look. Just be prepared to scratch your head during (and even after) the film. Even I don't completely understand it, but nevertheless I still love it. This happens a lot when I watch anime, which is a big reason as to why I love anime as much as I do. Anime can be just so very deep and intelligent, making it so much better than most entertainment out there in my opinion. Many times it makes you want to watch again and again in order to understand it fully. I'll definitely be seeing this one again.
