Iffy for 15+
Uneven family/marriage dramedy has some mature themes.
What Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that this well-meaning but inconsistent dramedy has lots of heart and a worthwhile message: Figure out what matters most, make life meaningful, and keep the faith. But some themes -- including infidelity, husband-and-wife power struggles, and the death of a child -- are simply too mature for young audiences. There's also some swearing (mostly mild), social drinking, and a fair bit of sexual innuendo.
- Families can talk about what matters most to them as a family. A great discussion can be had about what makes life meaningful and the roles that faith and church play in the characters' marriage. Older teens can handle a discussion about how the film portrays marriage. Is it more or less realistic than what you've seen in other TV shows and movies? Why?
The good stuff
-
Messages: Though the lead characters seem to go astray, they exhibit an enormous amount of compassion and sympathy for one another's needs and troubles in the end. That said, a mother-in-law seems to be setting her daughter up for a failed marriage, and a wife fails to understand the importance of her husband's attempts to help young children through sports. He, in turn, begins stonewalling her. But overall, the good trumps the bad by the movie's end.
What to watch for
-
Violence: Some trash-talking and shoving on the basketball court -- one player throws a punch at another. A father threatens his son with a beating. A wife confronts a suspected mistress, with some shouting but no physical contact.
-
Sex: Plenty of sexual innuendo, but nothing too crude. A married man kisses a woman who isn't his wife. A wife dresses up in lingerie to entice her husband. Men discuss ogling women -- and indulge in doing so.
-
Language: Mostly just mild swearing, including "ass" (which is uttered many times) and "damn."
-
Consumerism: Some signage and logos, including Cybex exercise machines, Jose Cuervo, and McDonald's.
-
Drinking, drugs and smoking: Some beer drinking in social situations.

Good film but.... by rstarks25
I enjoyed the movie. As a black man, I must ask, why does Hollywood project White women as the ultimate weakness for black men? This guy was really willing to leave his wife for one of his player's mother? That's weak. Coaches know better than that. Black men know better than that. To find a successful black woman as he did was a blessing. Despite his injury she made sure they maintained a nice lifestyle. She didn?t make it easy either. In addition, her mother was a hindrance and I?m glad she realized that later in the film. I digress. My point is, movies like this show the true strength of Black love but it's sad that we have to be depicted as emotionally weak and subject to break up our families when the black man is tempted by the prospects of a new white love.

Clean, funny, and sound message. by FrostyTheSnowman
This films shows a different side to men, black men in particular. As with many other black films of today, we are often portrayed as being players and thugs or dead beats. If that's what you like then don't go see this film.
This film is about the struggles a young wedded couple experience when God is not at the center of the marriage or your life. The moral of the film is about a triple braided cord (man, God, and woman) is not easily broken. The message is pretty sound, and anyone wanting to watch a clean family oriented film should go see it.

Wonderful. Very eye opening movie. You learn to mind your own business and keep others out of your marriage.

Thanks Bishop Jakes, the movie was great! I usually don't go to see a movie on the opening night or weekend. After listening to Bishop Jakes this morning on Tom Jorner I decided I needed to see the movie. I am glad I did. The movie touched on things that we deal with in real life. The trails of marriage, life changes events, and the challenges of trying to do the right thing in life.
Not often do I enjoy a movie but this one I enjoyed. A must see for couples that are dating, or married.
Take your friends, and/or family you will enjoy this movie, I did.
Blessing 2-U all.

This movie was excellent. I am a little biased because I absolutely love Morris Chestnut. He was great and beautiful. Jennifer Lewis was funny and so was Dave's (Chestnut) little friend that was always crying. It was an excellent movie and I will be buying the DVD.
