Who's In It: Natalie Portman, Ashton Kutcher, Kevin Kline, Greta Gerwig, Ludacris, Mindy Kaling, Lake Bell, Olivia Thirlby
The Basics: Natalie Portman plays Emma, a doctor who works 80 hours a week and has emotional issues that prevent her from snaring a man and making him take care of her. Ashton Kutcher is Adam, a romantic writer with the perfect amount of facial hair, who works on a TV show about singing teens. They have known each other in some capacity since they were young, starting when Adam offered to "digitally manipulate" Emma at camp. Fast forward 15 or so more years and they are still bumping into each other, and still flirting with the possibility that 2 beautiful people could make some really hot love together. When the decide to become friends with benefits and nothing more, Adam realizes that he can't stick to his end of the bargain. Will Emma realize that not every guy is as charming as Adam when Aunt Flo comes to visit, and maybe she should buck up and take one for Team Monogamy?!
What's The Deal: This movie has a ton of really unexpected laughs in it. Its edginess and great chemistry between the characters make it a fun sex comedy. And color me shocked, because the ad campaign make it look pretty run-of-the-mill. The supporting cast really beefs up the movie too, as it is comprised of a lot of funny people who never miss a beat. Add in references to Pixar's Up, jerks who own a Prius, and men with horrible nicknames, and this one's thoroughly entertaining.
Is There A Doctor In The House? Yes, in fact, there are 4, and this was the strangest part of the movie. I am not an avid Grey's Anatomy watcher so it seems weird to me that young doctors all live together and share the same bathroom and stuff ("Sorry I didn't do the dishes, I was doing an emergency spleen vivisection on the President"). Mindy Kaling, Greta Gerwig, Guy Branum, and Natalie Portman all share the same space, and I couldn't help but wonder if in another draft of the script, Ashton's character just didn't have any health insurance and so he stumbled into this apartment naked and refused to leave.
Use This Movie to Do Your Bidding: If you fear confrontation but have something to tell your significant other or friend, take them to see this movie. Messages include: I think it would be fun to bang you, How's about you and me get serious, I want to date your ex, and Looking at Kevin Kline in a speedo is a perfect Saturday night.
Don't Go Hungry: There is an abundance of delicious pastries in this film. Just saying.
