Lacks some of the idiocy of your average teenage rom-com. But it doesn't bring much to the party. It sort of ambles along, with two nice people at the center of a human scavenger hunt. It's not much of a film, but it sort gets you halfway there, like a Yugo.

This is the kind of sparsely plotted comedy that depends on compelling characters, but it stars two young actors defined by ironic detachment.

Regards its characters with affectionate detachment, and assures its audience that no great calamities or revelations are in store. Instead, there are a series of small crises and tiny epiphanies, all adding up to a story that courts triviality in its pursuit of charm.

It is a teen romantic comedy that largely fits the familiar template but is also fleshed out with atmosphere, a nice blend of broad goofiness and sophistication, and two appealing leads who bring it to life.

Though the movie rambles in the middle, it gets back on track when Nick and Norah have a sweet encounter in an unexpected place. The soundtrack is an excellent counterpoint to the film's quirky scenarios.

For Families provided by Common Sense Media

Iffy for 14+

Teen romcom is believable but on the edgy side.

What Parents Need to Know

Parents need to know that this comedy is designed to appeal to the same hip teens who like Gossip Girl and Judd Apatow movies. Conversations about sex and relationships are candid and specific (for example, teen girls discuss orgasms in a convenience store), and several couples hook up, especially one drunk teen girl. In one scene, the camera cuts from a couple making out to the sound of the girl's orgasm. Although the main teen characters don't drink, plenty of other underage characters do. Language includes "s--t," "ass," "bitch," and the like. Product placement includes Mac computers, iPods, and Gray's Papaya hot dogs.

  • Families can talk about the real-life consequences of the characters' behavior, particularly the underage drinking. How do you think a night like the one in the movie would turn out in real life? Families can also discuss whether this movie offers a realistic depiction of today's teens. How do TV shows and movies usually portray urban-dwelling teens as opposed to suburban teens? The film makes teens seem very accepting of friends with different cultures and sexuality. Teens: Is that the case with your friends? Also, does the way the characters use technology seem realistic? How is media a part of teen daily life?

The good stuff
  • message true0

Messages: On the plus side, there are some examples of strong friendships. On the down side, teens seem to live parent-less lives where, despite being underage, they can get into trendy clubs and bars, drink too much, and hook up with random people. Nick is the only straight guy in his band; his fellow musicians aren't portrayed stereotypically.

What to watch for
  • violence false1

Violence: A guy punches another guy in the face.

  • sex false3

Sex: Viewers hear a girl have an orgasm (prior that she and the guy are making out on a couch). A couple of other scenes show couples hooking up/making out. A girl does a striptease for a guy, but there's no nudity. Two teen girls discuss sex -- and, in particular, orgasms. A gay teen guy tells a girl to change bras to get rid of her "uniboob."

  • language false3

Language: Language includes words like "bitch," "ass," "s--t," and "a--hole."

  • consumerism false2

Consumerism: Yugo, Gray's Papaya hot dogs, iPod, Mac computer.

  • drugsalcoholtobacco false3

Drinking, drugs and smoking: Underage teens drink to excess (one girl can barely figure out where she is) in bars/clubs. But the main teen characters don't drink.

The Infinite Playlist by Daydream
Nick and Nora?s Infinite Playlist, a film about musical soulmates overcoming immature relationships as well as their own insecurities, lives up to the audience?s expectations. Michael Cera?s and Kat Dennings? awkward chemistry works its magic as the movie takes you on a wild goose chase to find the band ?Where?s Fluffy?, but we realize they have actually been looking for each other the entire time. In a broken world people are preoccupied with finding the pieces to put it back together, but ?maybe we don?t have to find them, maybe we are the pieces?. Michael Cera (Juno, Superbad) stood out with yet another perfect role. The writing couldn?t have been better for his character. Go see this movie!

Couples night out! by AntidoteX
I recently went and saw this movie last Tuesday. It was my girl friends birthday and i decided to take her and see, what i thought would be a great movie... And it surpass my expectations! Everybody we witnessed had their lover beside them and it was just a great movie. The story was perfect and it was funny and sentimental which made it all the more interesting. Overall, if your looking for a movie to connect with and cuddle up with your lover to at night or day; this is the movie to see. I give this movie a ten out of ten.. Plus, awsome soundtrack! Great for musicians of all types!

Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist by Celluloid_Sweetie
Well as the movie's title boasts the music in this movie was awesome. I thoroughly enjoyed watching Nick and Norah slowly fall in love. I was let down every time they hit a speedbump on their road to each others arms. And the soundtrack played as a beautiful backdrop to it all. This movie has it all, a love story, music, a few gross out moment, a funny messy drunk girl, a horribly evil ex girlfriend, and 2 gay best friends. Watch out for the gum!!

You'll leave the theater smiling! by 311
This was a great, happy, feel good movie. The snappy dialogue and great chemistry that Michael cera and Kat dennings had alone made the movie just great but the supporting cast especially the blonde friend were hilarious as well. My ex girlfriend and i were laughing and smiling the whole time even as we walked out. Sh&*t, i don't ever remember being that self aware and having that much damn fun when i was in highschool! It was well worh my pockets lookin like rabbit ears on the way out from the 100 bucks you spend on tickets, food and drinks!! Go and laugh and tell the 14 yr olds to shut the F up for me will ya!!! Between the giggles and them wanting u to hear their cool ringtone in the middle of the movie, good god man!!

Entertaining Enough by Adinaw
Definitely not a must-see. Kind of followed the "Juno" style, but not as funny as "Juno." Had some cute moments and some funny moments, but overall not so great. I left the theater with mixed feelings about it and wasn't happy that I picked that movie over everything else that's out now.

Exceeds your expectations by iamgus11
Do yourself a favor and go watch this movie , its funny , romantic and the acting is Great!. From just watching the trailer that seems like just another teen romance you arent gonna really know how wonderfully witty and charming and visually stylish Nick and Nora is. Micheal Cera delivering yet another great movie has amazing chemestry with his lead Kat Dennings I would compare this movie to three great movies 1st Superbad as it is incredibly funny 2nd Juno as it stills retains that insight combo on teenage sarcasm and great acting and 3rdEternal sunshine of the Spotless Mind what with the layers of visual tricks and Romance . What can i say just go watch this movie.

Best movie ever! If you are between the ages of 13 and 21 you have to see this movie! It is hillarious! Personally i knew i was going to like it because i love this type of movie but even if you dont normally enjoy it, you should go. You hardly ever stop laughing and you'll be A***-ing at the end, (the whole theatre did) The actors and actresses are really good too.I think the movie is mostly for younger people but for all the kids at heart, you will love it too. Go see it!

This was a GREAT movie =) The casting choices were perfect! As usual, Michael Cera was a little awkward, but that goes without saying. It was really short though (only an hour and a half!). I almost wished it was a little longer.
