Iffy for 16+
Inane, raunchy romantic comedy inspires no love.
What Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that this "hard R" comedy -- which may attract teen fans of star Dane Cook -- is stupid from the get-go and doesn't improve much as it goes along. It tries to earn laughs with coarse, gross-out humor, but not the genius kind masking a heartfelt message, a la Judd Apatow. There's partial nudity (breasts and butt) and non-stop sexual references, plus plenty of swearing (including "f--k"), drinking, demeaning sexist jokes, and more.
- Families can talk about the "raunchy comedy" trend. Why are sex- and swearing-filled movies so popular? Is this movie as successful as its hard-R predecessors, or does it fall flat? Why? Parents, ask your teens what parts of the movie they found offensive. Why was that the case? Did any of it seem romantic? Why or why not? Families can also discuss the movie's perspective on women. Are they really so gullible that they'd fall for such an over-the-top scam like Tank's? Is Dustin really unattractive to women just because he's nice? Why would Alexis be attracted to Tank?
The good stuff
-
Messages: Lots of jokes made at the expense of women (some are so sexist as to be utterly contemptuous) and occasionally men. Stereotypes are propagated; some characters cheat, lie, and deceive but are magically forgiven because they're sexually appealing. Bad behavior is depicted as worthy of being rewarded and niceness as being weak. Some positive depictions of friendships.
What to watch for
-
Violence: Two men fight over a woman; couples yell, scream at, and insult each other.
-
Sex: Strippers bare their breasts while doing lap and pole dances; couples straddle each other while having sex, though the camera shows them with their bottoms on; a naked backside is flashed briefly; passionate kissing; lots of crass jokes about copulation and other sexual acts, some in detail; a father uses his son as his wingman while picking up women at bars and then makes fun of him for falling in love; porn DVDs are strewn about, their titles and cover art visible; sex toys are displayed.
-
Language: Frequent use of strong language, including "f--k," "p---y," "a--hole," "s--t," and "bitch."
-
Consumerism: Titles of porn DVDs are clearly visible; Marlboro cigarettes; Pontiac.
-
Drinking, drugs and smoking: Lots of drinking, sometimes to excess and fueling more-than-typical idiocy. Some smoking; a joke about cocaine.

Great Date Movie! by plixor
This movie was funny from the first line to the very end...! My g/f and I enjoyed every minute of the movie we were laughing so hard Dane Cook proved that he could be funnier and more filthy at the same time! Kate Hudson looked her best as usual and Jason Biggs played his role perfectly. This is a must see movie especially for couples!

My Best Friend's Girl by jc_stick
It sucked for my boyfriend and I because we got there just as the movie started and had to sit in the front row. But I have to say this movie was worth sitting in the front row and getting a stiff neck! I haven't laughed so hard during a movie in a long time. I definitley recommend this movie to everyone! I would see it again. Also a couple of friends have seen the movie off our recommendation. Dane Cook, Kate Hudson and Jason Biggs were awesome!

Great adult comedy! by thomascagle
My boyfriend and i thoroughly enjoyed the movie. Dane Cook was the perfect person to play his part in the movie. No one could have done it better! Kate Hudson also was phenomenal in her role as the sweet girlfriend. Defiantly not a movie for kids. I didn't mind anything but if i had kids they wouldn't be allowed to see it until they were 16 or 17. If you like Dane Cook and Kate Hudson and crude humor you will love this movie. I plan to buy it when it comes out on dvd.

GREAT! but not if you dont like crude humor by michaelcamp123
okay for all of the people who say this movie is horrible because it is crude: IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE CRUDE! THAT IS WAT MAKES IT FUNNY! THAT IS WHAT DANE COOK IS ALL ABOUT!!!!! The movie is funny with crude humor and the actors do great at portraying their roles. You cannot say this movie was horrible because it was too raunchy. okay you shouldn't have gone to see this movie in the first place if you didnt want to see that kind of stuff. It is definetely a guy movie and a really dirty girl movie haha.

Painfully repellant by Billy52
If you don't think every idea of Dane Cook is hilarious, avoid this one. I hated it. I am not a Dane Cook fan. His thing is to be repulsive and offensive. To try to shock you with how obnoxious he is. Do you think that's funny?

Best firnds girl by quietplease
Crude, shocking, and a must see for Dane fans. It kept me laughing the whole movie. Don;t expect Dane to be mild and passive. That is not him. Take a date and enjoy the movie! Quiet Please, and don't text during the movie. It ruins it for everyone.

Don't Walk in, Then You won't Have to Walk Out! by waterwalker
What a horrendous piece of juvenile garbage. It's been years since I walked out of a movie, but this one made it easy. I kept waiting for it to get better and all it did was get raunchier, we left after Alec Baldwin's hedonistic tirade that would embarrass most people with any kind of class. Of course if you were like the other person said, a 12 year old boy who just learned how to swear and how to be disgusting, well then this movie is for you!
Reading the other comments of those who liked this dreck, well, it shows you what our society is coming to....
I'm sincerely disappointed that Kate Hudson, wholesome, sweet, talented woman that she is, has sunk this low to put her name on this sad excuse for entertainment!

Why write a bad review? by DinoX
I'd like to first say, please state your age if you're going to write a bad review about a movie, You have to understand that Dane Cook has reached out with his Comedy from ages 16+, his fan base is huge, and he has gotten to use alot of his standup comedy in this movie, one of the first ones yet. This movie outdid itself, if you enjoy a Stupid funny movie. Kate Hudson made a leap in this movie and it was phenomenal, with her first Romantic Comedy with Matthew McCauhnahey, it was great they clicked, their second movie was a little less than expected, but She and Dane Cook absolutely made a great duo in this. Whose next on Dane Cook's hit list of women to act with? So If you enjoy Dane Cook's standup, this is a Must See, if you've never heard his comedy you may not like this. Leave it at that, Myself, all my friends, coworkers, and family loved this movie. I won't tell you to go watch it, you have to decide that, Don't base you seeing it off others, only what you think you like.
