Iffy for 12+
Violent action sequel should've stayed buried.
What Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that this third installment in The Mummy series has plenty of action violence, which may be a big draw for kids. Only a few of scenes are actually gory -- faces melting off, men about to be decapitated or dismembered -- but most of the battle scenes involve explosions, sword fights, guns, and hand-to-hand combat. Be prepared for the vast hordes of skeleton warriors; they could be quite scary for younger viewers. There's relatively little swearing, although hero Rick does refer to two Chinese soldiers as "Ying" and "Yang." In addition to a few kisses, a woman appears in a long negligee, and two characters appear about to make love (passionate kissing lying down).
- Families can talk about whether sequels are generally as good as the originals. Can you think of any that are? Does it matter when, as in this case, one of the main actors doesn't come back? Also, the bulk of the film is set in China: How is Chinese culture represented? How does that depiction relate to the time period in which the movie takes place? Did you learn anything about Chinese culture?
What to watch for
-
Violence: Lots of action violence and implied gore: faces melt, a man is about to be quartered, several shots of near decapitations, limbs are dismembered, bodies are stabbed and shot. Huge Yetis appear as scary CGI panther-like creatures. There are hordes of skeletal warriors (a la Pirates of the Caribbean).
-
Sex: Evie appears in a nightgown to seduce her husband. Rick makes a joke about "inspiring" his wife in the bedroom. Two or three passionate kisses. A couple seems about to make love, but they're clothed.
-
Language: Words include "bastard," "ass," and "rot in hell."
-
Consumerism: Not an issue
-
Drinking, drugs and smoking: Clubgoers drink champagne and cocktails; a character swigs straight from a liquor bottle; a couple has wine for dinner.

The tomb of the "drags - on" movie by saintandrew
With a storyline convoluted by cheap theatrical devices, impossible scenarios, and poor acting, this film's only saving qualities are the gratuitous action scenes. They even have the cliché evil female accomplice with a pseudo nazi uniform and a scar on her cheek. Jet Li and Isabella Leong save the other boring or inept characterizations and Li doesn't have enough screen time to provide enough punch ("pun" intended) to keep the audience engaged. Maria Bello as Evelyn O'Connell is hard to adjust to after Rachel Weisz's previous portrayals have fixed the character in so many ways. Brendan Frazer plays - surprise! - Brendan Frazer. He's supposed to be playing a father in his early fifties, based upon the age of his son Alex - played well by Luke Ford, but he still acts the part as a twenty something smart mouthed rebel who neither shows fatherly nor spousal emotion in this retread of every character Brendon has done. See it for the action scenes - but beware of the drag-on!

The movie had lots of action, but an hour into it I was still waiting for the main story to unfold. We left early.

That was the worst movie that we have ever seen in our lives, I honestly don't see how u can charge people to see that movie there was no plot the movie was just stupid the actors were bad and it never made since. In other words we were disappointed in the movie because the previews for it looked so good and then it was just horrible

The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor by Smartguy60
great guy movie just to go and enjoy. It's a fantasy like Harry Potter but with Brandon Fraiser and his grown up son. His son's character reminded us of Brandon Fraiser's character in the first Mummy movie.

DISAPPOINTMENT! by raquelv24
So, I'm a fan of the Mummy movies. They give me that "Indiana Jones" feeling of adventure, romance, cheesy comedy, and overall entertainment. I was excited about the story of this new Mummy, but it failed to deliver. The first mistake was replacing Evie's character with a new person who was unable to convince us that she was A. Evie and B. English (her accent was inconsistent).
It was cheesy, kind of dull at times and just didn't feel like a Mummy movie.

Wildly Disappointing by nessalynn87
As a big fan of the first two installments of the Mummy, I was hoping this movie would at least be better than the Scorpion King. It does seem to manage a few laughs, but the humor was overly corny. This movie had a predictable plot and even more predictable plot twists. The Effects looked down right fake. I swear when they closed up on the Emperor's soldiers it obvious that they were guys in costumes and oversized masks that were apparently too heavy for their heads b/c it looked like they were struggling, it was a sea of bobbleheads out there. Maira Bello was obviously faking an English accent and failing. There was no chemistry between Rick and Evie. The character of Evie was written completely wrong anyway. Jet Li's Emperor was not the least bit threatening or scary. This movie is a cheap imitation of it's predecessors. The only shining moment was seeing Brendan Fraser shirtless.
Seriously doesn't come close to the original.

The Mummy 3 by Natana
It's watchable, but there are places where no one seems to be having fun making the movie. It's more "Let's get it done." It leans heavily on the Indiana Jones movies, but what the hey, if you're going to emulate, do it from the best. The sets were amazing and the CGI fantastic. Brendan Fraiser is always watchable, but I wanted Rachel back for Evvie.
