This high school horror romp tackles its bad-girl-gone-really-bad premise with eye-rolling obviousness and, fatally, a near-total absence of real scares.

Diablo Cody's glib teen-hip dialogue mostly feels like self-conscious splatter over a sorely lackluster scare flick.

A campy pastiche of horror and high-school movie cliches, the film only rises above standard-issue scare fare by dint of Cody's sneaky sense of humor.

It's not art, it's not "Juno," it's not "Girlfight," for that matter, but as a movie about a flesh-eating cheerleader, it's better than it has to be.

For Families provided by Common Sense Media

Iffy for 16+

Glossy teen horror-comedy is full of gore and sex.

What Parents Need to Know

Parents need to know that while teens will be clamoring to see this darkly funny horror movie -- which stars Transformers' Megan Fox and was written byJuno's Diablo Cody -- it's full of gory demonic violence, sex (including partial nudity, same-sex kissing, and a pervasive tone of sex as a game, a competition, and even a prelude to murder), constant strong language (from "f--k" to "s--t" and more), teen drinking, and more. Teens who watch expecting an offbeat screwball comedy like Juno will be in for a huge shock. Parents also need to know that this review is for the rated version of the film.

  • Families can talk about the film's mingling of sex and violence/death -- why do so many horror films make this link? Does the film use Fox's pin-up girl image for dramatic effect?
  • What is the movie saying about sexual competetiveness between girls? Why do these issues get fought out in this way? What motivates girls tofight, and fight the way they do, in close friendships?
  • Why do you think so many horror films take place in or around high school? What does that say about being a teenager?

The good stuff
  • message true0

Messages: Considering that one character becomes a demonic killing machine and another goes on a killing rampage to avenge her, it's hard to find any positive messages here.

  • rolemodels true0

Role models: With its cast of murderous rock stars, sex-machine killing demons, and vengeful girl warriors, there are no truly positive role models in the film (though an argument could be made for the movie promoting a form of "girl power").

What to watch for
  • violence false4

Violence: Gory violence: A young woman is stabbed to death as part of a satanic ritual; several people are devoured in bloody fashion by a demon that has possessed a young woman, with shredding of flesh, blood, etc. A fire at a bar kills several people; also stabbings, punches, kicks, and self-mutilation. Dead bodies are seen in crime-scene footage.

  • sex false4

Sex: Lots of sex. Teens have consensual, safe sex; male and female nudity, reference to condom use. Nude female buttocks. Two young women make out in an extended scene. Plenty of naughty talk about sex and virginity -- "I'm not even a backdoor virgin," for example, and much more. Talk of flashing breasts to get served alcohol.

  • language false5

Language: Constant strong language, including (but in no way limited to) "f--k," "motherf--ker," "s--t," "hell," "ass," "t-ts," "damn," "dick," "dillhole," "goddamn," "retarded," "porking," and much, much more.

  • consumerism false2

Consumerism: Many products/brands are mentioned by name -- including (but not limited to) Vagisil, Monastat, MySpace, Chevy, The Cheesecake Factory, and many more -- but more as a way to make the dialogue sound cool/up-to-date than in a particularly promotional/salesy manner.

  • drugsalcoholtobacco false3

Drinking, drugs and smoking: Teens drink hard liquor and beer, sometimes to excess; characters smoke cigarettes; references to peyote; cocaine use is implied in photographs.

The movie was awesome. Everything about it. Megan Fox was great in it as the rest of the team. Clever, funny, scary, sexy, emotional. Great job everyone involved.

Expected it to be very stupid, IT WAS GREAT! by cgracealways
I honestly was expecting a stupid horror movie with bad acting....but THIS movie is great!!! If you liked Idle Hands with Jessica Alba (1999), you will LOVE THIS! I think 75% of bad reviews for all movies are from people who aren't in the right mood during the movie or have way too high of an expectation. Like this movie, Jennifer's Body, I think they had way too high expectations and was expecting this to be a horror film like Halloween or Saw, don't expect that, expect a COMEDY-HORROR type of film, and most of all HANG LOOSE AND RELAX!

Jennifer's Body-For Once Men Are The Victims!!! by LUV MOVIES N NY YANKEES
As a female horror fan, I must say that this is a start. It may not be the perfect horror film, but as a horror fan I felt I had to go see it. Men are the victims in the film but you will see why. I especially loved the very end because it completed the film and I felt satisfied. This film was funnier than it was scary, but it was very entertaining so I think it's worth watching. People take horror films too seriously! You can't compare this to Alfred Hitchcock or Stephen King or Japanese original horror films! If you do, of course you will be disappointed. See it for fun that's all.

Boring, Not Enough of Anything by MustBeIMAX
This movie sucked. Megan Fox plays Jennifer, the popular hot girl at school who gets possessed by a demon and starts killing off the school's male attendants. Sounds fun, right? Well, they managed to take an awesome idea and mess it up. This movie is, quite simply, boring. It was underplayed way too much, and I found myself checking my watch nonstop halfway through. This movie wasn't funny enough, scary enough, or sexy enough. It was just...BORING. If you think that you need to see it, rent it, but don't go out of your way to see it. It wasn't awful, it wasn't good, it wasn't okay, it was just boring. I wouldn't recommend that anyone see it.

She's Foxy But That's About It! by adicullen
I was pretty disappointed by this movie. I like Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried. I was happy that Adam Brody was included in the cast. It always bothers me when the previews are not included in the film. That happened quite a bit with this movie. It was humorous, gory, but not exactly a great horror film. There were no jumps and although there seemed to have been an attempt at a plot they failed miserably. Teens will probably enjoy this film regardless. Not appropriate for those under thirteen in my opinion. It wasn't worth the $9.50 ticket price. However, renting it might be worth it. Cheesy acting, lots of nudity....entertaining? Not so much.

DARK COMEDY by laylaalvar
I'm a chicken when it comes to horror movies. But, in this case I wasn't. Mainly due to the fact that it's not really a horror movie, but a DARK COMEDY. Make sure to keep that in mind. Don't expect super duper GORY crap, 'cause you aren't getting much. I gotta admit though, it's one HELL of a movie. Not only is it funny, it makes a lot of sense too. Usually I find myself questioning the whole point of certain movies.. like "GEE, that sure made a lot sense?" Thankfully, I understood their motives and whatnot. Diablo Cody is AMAZING. ONE of the most entertaining movies of the year.. considering that lately they've SUCKED! Enjoy :)

Jennifer's Body by Mr NiPPiE
If you extremely hate horror and gruesome bloody violence than stayfar away. But I also dont understand why people think that the actors in here are that terrible. Especially from Megan Fox. She wasnt that bad. she was just okay. She still hasnt proven herself as an actress yet so...But Amanda Seyfried really did steal the show. She proved herself that she could carry this film and actually do something like this with this particular genre. It was violent so as i said if you arent a big fan of horror then of course stay away. But it was a good film. Im talking in general for anyone. It was a great horror film. It had the good gore and horror violence and it had the sex, but it didnt go overboard with that, and it was scary it was very scary. I would be interested to see if there is a sequil and i do think that horror fans should miss out on Sorority Row to see this.

Jennifer's Body review by Punk_Kanellis
This movie has been out for about 3 years. I?ve heard plenty of feedback from fans saying they ?hate it, it was corny, bad effects and acting, etc.?. I would definitely have to say that I agree with the acting part of that, but it was extremely entertaining! First of all, I love Megan Fox. I think she?s gorgeous and talented (to an extent). She may not be Julia Roberts, but she?s still good. Amanda Seyfried played the ?nerd? role really well. Actually, she played it really, really well. But her relationship with Jennifer made no sense. As for the boys, the one that stood out to me was Kyle Gallner. You probably know him from Haunting in Connecticut, or A Nightmare on Elm St. He is the guy for horror movies. He played a great punk in Jennifer?s Body. As for the comedy part, there wasn?t a lot of that. What there was, was a lot of was the raunchy, fake-gore horror. It was definetly predictable, yet good. I couldn?t tear my eyes away!
