Some of this is affecting, some of it tedious, and the film's inconsistencies of tone are made more glaring by its peculiar look.

    The Hollywood Reporter

JCVD should entertain both movie and action buffs. Van Damme proves once and for all that he's not just a set of glistening pectorals. However, he's still in no danger of being asked to play Hamlet.

    USA Today Claudia Puig

JCVD is a whimsical twist on the biopic, sending up heist movies and breaking cinematic rules to interesting effect. At a critical moment, Van Damme rises out of a tense hostage situation to look into the camera and speak movingly to the audience. He has never seemed more convincing.

Jean Claude can act! by resdogmovie2
No offense to Mr. Van Damme, but I normally don't put him in the category of "Actor", but after this movie, he deservedly belongs there. Similar to Mickey Rourke in The Wrestler, Van Damme plays a broken star looking for redemption, and from this viewer, he gets it and then some.

Captivating Performance by film guru
JCVD has never been so convincing!! As the L.A Weekly would put it "…simply put, it's a blast…Van Damme is a pleasure to watch ?funny and light on his feet.." Can't wait to buy it on DVD!!!

Van Damme an actor?? by CoxP9
This movie far exceeded my expectations. The acting was far above par, not only for Jean Claude, but for anyone. The direction was very artistic and beautifully executed. A true insight into Van Damme's real life struggles and feelings. Bottom line... a great and aesthetically appreciated movie. Another interesting thing to look at is the similarity between this movie and "The Wrestler". Two "washed up" actors making a major comeback. This year has been a great year in the film industry, not so much in way of making profits, but in the quality, and creativeness of filmmakers. We are seeing a different kind of genre emerge before our eyes and it is awesome to be a part of. By the way, JCVD even made Time magazine!
