Maybe Humpday needed more characters and a less claustrophobic atmosphere. Maybe the film needed to be bolder and break a few boundaries itself. Maybe it could have better explained why these two men still need to be friends. Whatever the case, it certainly needed a better payoff.

Unlike a lot of institutional raunch in today's comedy, Humpday finds laughs out of what is rarely made explicit between buddies.

The movie's unblinking observation of a friendship put to the test is amused, queasy making, kindhearted and unfailingly truthful.

Anna's thoughts matter because, as played by the wonderfully nuanced newcomer Alycia Delmore, the no-bull responses of this perceptive woman are a key to Humpday's sly, wised-up feminist outlook.

HUMPDAY. Rating: 85 out of 100. (Based on a VIP advance press preview) by MOVIES REVIEWER
Recently I attended the advance press preview of this FUNNY 1.5hr movie written/directed/acted by Lynn Shelton - starring Mark Duplass, Joshua Leonard, Alycia Delmore, and Trina Willard. As far as male-bonding movies go - HUMPDAY has the distinction of being one of the funniest tightly-written most intuitive chockful of SLY humor movie to come along in a long time. It is UNPRETENTIOUS and UTTERLY ENGAGING - snaring you with CLEVER LINES delivered by the marvelously expressive cast. Totally un-atypical 'Hollywood', HUMPDAY is the best independent movie of this year/2009.At its 2009 Sundance Film Festival premiere, it won the Special Jury Prize for Spirit of Independence. The main themes are not about porn - but about male-bonding, self-discovery, communication, goals/hopes/aspirations/ambitions, relationships/friendships, etc. This movie is the humble unassuming David to Hollywood's assembly-line hollow box-office Goliaths. VERDICT: GO SEE IT! GRADE: Solid B

Go see it! by dthetrdave
Funny, wise, and just a fantastic movie! Not the typical "bromance" nonsense, but a smart and funny film about being in your 30s and trying to defend who you've become as opposed to who you thought you'd be!

The dialogue is hilarious and real and surprisingly charming. Though it's a low-budget indie film, the character development deepens in subtle ways throughout the movie. It's an absurdly unlikely story told in recognizable voices.

Well, if you like a film that is simple and gives you a peek into how everyday friends work though the reality of who they are vs. who they think they are. Then see this movie. It has a lot of chuckles and the acting is not over the top! it's honest portrayals of people we know and love! I enjoyed the film a great deal. It was short, and sweet. Also, an ending that you will truly be pleased with.
