Who's in It:
Aaron Stanford, Kathleen Quinlan, Vinessa Shaw, Emilie de Ravin
The Basics: Mutant freaks stalk and destroy the Let's-Take-a-Shortcut Family, who deserve to die for being out in the creepy desert in the first place. And for being Ugly Americans in America which takes some doing, really by wasting tons of gasoline dragging a giant trailer behind their stupid truck.
What's the Deal? In movies like this, the mayhem cannot start fast enough. Unless it's, like, teenage Jamie Lee Curtis, do you ever really care about the victims in movies like this? No, you do not. You want the face-axing to begin. This ain't To Kill a Mockingbird. So points off for this one for making us wait too much for the family to start biting it one by one. Call it good, just not great.
Get All Political on Your Friends: Remind them that this remake was written and directed by those French guys who made High Tension, and that the heavy-handed subtext of the film is all about America's military arrogance and imperialism coming home to roost via terrorism and the botched Iraq war. Seriously.
Weird Shoot Trivia: Set in New Mexico, shot in Morocco.
Horror Geek Fun Fact: Ted Levine, who plays the bullish dad here, was murderer Buffalo Bill in The Silence of the Lambs.
