Can we finally just admit that Dane Cook isn't funny? In a comedy so lame its plot could've been swiped from a Bazooka Joe wrapper.

Here is the dirty movie of the year, slimy and scummy, and among its casualties is poor Jessica Alba, who is a cutie and shouldn't have been let out to play with these boys.

The New York Times A.O. Scott

The main audience for this dim little sex comedy has no particular interest in seeing Ms. Alba act. They want to see her in her underwear and also to confront one of the central cultural questions of our time: will she take her top off?

Dane Cook sells out arenas with his stand-up act, and Jessica Alba is, well, Jessica Alba, but once "Chuck" exhausts their devoted bases, this doesn't promise to bring much good luck to Lionsgate.

The script by Josh Stolberg has no fizz. It's possible to sit for half an hour without cracking a smile. Part of the problem is sheer repetitiveness; another problem is that Stu's leering remarks are repulsive rather than endearing.

For Families provided by Common Sense Media

Not for kids 17 and under

Not funny or romantic; too raunchy for all ages.

What Parents Need to Know

Parents need to know that since this movie imitates the raunchy comedy style of The Wedding Crashers and Judd Apatow movies, it might appeal to older teens who are fans of "hard R" comedies. But this one doesn't have its predecessors' charm, and even though "only" one character smokes pot, nudity and sex (both as a subject of conversation and the act itself) are ubiquitous, and in some cases downright disgusting. Women are discussed as if they were walking genitalia, obese women are the target of ridicule, and even 10-year-olds are depicted as sex fiends who want to actually "do it" during a game of "7 Minutes in Heaven." Plus, the idea that women are so desperate to get married that they'd sleep with a stranger is demeaning and sexist.

  • Families can talk about the "raunchy comedy" trend. Why are sex- and swearing-filled movies so popular? Is this movie as successful as its hard-R predecessors, or does it fall flat? Why? Parents, ask your kids what parts of the movie they found offensive. Why was that the case? Did any of it seem romantic? Why or why not? Families can also discuss whether the movie's central joke is sexist or funny. Do you think women would really line up to sleep with a stranger just so they can get married to the next man they meet?

The good stuff
  • message true0

Messages: Chuck takes advantage of women thinking he's a good-luck charm to sleep with as many of them as possible. Stu tries to pass himself off as Chuck so he can "score," too. The idea that women are so desperate to get married that they'd jump into bed with a man they don't even know is sexist and demeaning.

What to watch for
  • violence false1

Violence: Chuck pushes and shoves a man and suffers several mishaps, like getting dental instruments stuck into his back, getting electrocuted, having shards of glass fall into his lap, etc. Cam accidentally falls and hurts herself several times.

  • sex false5

Sex: There's barely a breast-free scene in the movie. Extensive montages of Chuck and dozens of topless women having sex in various positions. Only one love scene -- with Alba -- is nudity free. A disturbing image of a woman with three breasts. Chuck simulates oral sex on a stuffed penguin. A man pleasures himself with a grapefruit.

  • language false5

Language: Many euphemisms for female genitalia and sex: "f--k," "p--y," "p--n," etc. Other curse words ("s--t," "ass," "a--hole," etc.) are said frequently but still less often than the sexual words.

  • consumerism false3

Consumerism: Hummer SUV; Pamela Anderson's breast implants.

  • drugsalcoholtobacco false3

Drinking, drugs and smoking: Chuck gets incredibly drunk before one sexual encounter; wedding guests drink champagne; Cam's brother is supposedly always high and in one scene smokes marijuana.

Good Luck? Chuck by Daydream
Dane Cook does a phenomenal job in this movie. He is goofy funny throughout the whole film and Jessica is just what he needs. They make a great match. Dan Fogler, lead actor in Balls of Fury, is Dane's wing man that is just obnoxiously funny. There are a lot of Laughs and a lot of Nudity. Everyone in the theatre was laughing. (male, female, young and old). If you are looking for a lot of laughs and a raunchy-romantic comedy this is the one for you. Word of warning: this movie has some graphic scenes. It is most likely rated R becasue of all the boobs, sexual humor and sex scenes.

For Mature Audiances ONLY! by spaint
This movie was so funny, but NOT appropriate for young audiance members. The nudity and sexual situations go above and beyond what was necessary, but as long as you go expecting that you will enjoy yourself. The movie is really funny but you need to be prepared for the content and only go with someone you are comfortable watching that kind of graphic matrial with, otherwise it will be a LONG and extremely uncomfortable hour and a half. (Not something to see with your parents, underage children, grandparents or first date)

Do not go...I have never written a review before... by AllTimeMovieLover
I have gone to these reviews to determine if I'd go to a movie in the past. I didn't today. I still see viewers voting 'go' but, I actually had to make a user profile today to give a review today myself of 'Oh NO'. Because I have never been exposed to a more HORRIBLE movie than this one. In the future I will know better and will walk out of the movie. I've never been exposed to a movie that was so wrong in every way. I covered my eyes and closed them for half of it...and the three times I felt like getting up to walk out. I should have. So, that is my fault. But, I felt so convicted to warn people about this movie that I just couldn't let this go without writing. It was mainly the sexual parts that were to the extreme in crossing even the most inappropriate boundaries. I've never thought in a million years that a movie like this would be made for the general public to even view. Now that I know I'll be more prepared to just stand up and walk out...because it doesn't get any better.

Good Luck Chuck by IttyL
This was an all around good movie. The idea was pretty clever, however the acting could have been done much better. Jessica Alba is her usual "HOT" self, and dane cook gets the laughs in this hilarious comedy.

Should be rated X! by sparkle66
I am by no means shy about really much of anything in life, but I have to say that I was uncomfortable with all of the sex, sexual inuendo, and comments about masturbation it was just down right pornographic. Not sure how this is allowed in theatre's these days! Holy crap the world has changed

Pass The Buck On Good Luck Chuck! by cyrese25
Jessica Alba is adorable and so is the hilarious Dane Cook, but this movie fell flat with it's good premise turning into one gratuitious sex scene after another. There was at one time, nine different sex scenes all going on at once. It felt like watching a weird Brady Bunch Credits with nudity or something. At times it tried to be sensitive, but ended up lame and awkward (the audience groaned.) While not "mean-spirited" like Roger Roeper claimed, it was uncomfortable to watch at times, i.e. when Dane Cook's "Chuck" character performed filatio on a stuffed penguin toy of Alba's. Rent this one and do what I should of...see Resident Evil: Extinction instead!

Overreacting by Part_Time_Spider_Man
Let me start off by saying I waited so long to see this movie because of user reviews. People explained this movie as a soft porn! HOLY CRAP they are wrong. Its a feel good movie with a great love story! Yea, there are some scenes that are not appropriate for children. But then I ask you this question, what the heck are you bringing your children to a R rated movie for? This movie is made for adults and older teenagers (18 and up) to enjoy and to forget about all the bad stuff in this world for an hour or two. Nothing more, nothing less! So please dont let the negative movie reviews scare you off from seeing this movie. It was well worth the price of admission and I honestly felt that it was good from start to finish. Hope you all enjoy this movie as much as I did.

No Luck - Pass on Chuck by karcar88
Billed as a romantic comedy, this crass, lewd, sophomoric and semi-pornographic film was a thorough waste of time. Base and poorly written, it also wasted the talents of the actors (who could have done much better if given some decent material). This movie rips off fans, because it gives no indication in its trailers of how crude and rude it truly is. A sad waste of talent, time and money - the concept was good and deserved a much better treatment.
