Christian-themed marriage drama won't grab kids.
What Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that a powerful grassroots marketing campaign has helped turn this Christian-themed indie drama about a fireman with a troubled marriage into a hit. While the content is age-appropriate for older tweens and up, the marriage-centric story isn't likely to interest them. The plot includes mention of online porn (it's frowned on, of course), but viewers don't really see anything salacious. Marriage is portrayed as tough and often devoid of love, affection, or respect, but something that Christians are expected to endure anyway. Non-Christian viewers might be uncomfortable with some of the movie's dialogue and themes; on the flipside, at least it skips some of the raw language and sex in other Hollywood firefighting movies (like Backdraft).
- Families can talk about the film's messages about marriage. Talk about the concept of "unconditional love" -- what exactly does that mean? How do different groups (religious or otherwise) feel about divorce? Do you have to be a Christian to understand or appreciate what this movie is saying about marriage and life in general?
What to watch for
-
Violence: An offscreen car wreck yields maimed victims; perils of an impending train crash. A firefighter rescues an unconscious child from a raging inferno, getting singed in the process.
-
Sex: Caleb surfs the Web for online pornography (never shown), and some dialogue hints that his wife isn't very responsive in the bedroom.
-
Language: Not an issue
-
Consumerism: A tie-in Love Dare book exists; the movie can't help but feel a bit like a promo for it.
-
Drinking, drugs and smoking: In one scene, firemen drink hot sauce to test their machismo. In real life, a stunt like that recently killed a man.

It's real by grizzly43
It's real life...not underdone and not overdone...... Very refreshing. If critics don't like it, then consider the source...

As a fan of their previous movies (Flywheel & Facing the Giants), I must admit I was a little concerned when I found out the filmmakers responsible had decided to use Kirk Cameron in their third installment. While I greatly respect him as a Christian for his willingness to stand firm for the faith, I have never been a great fan of his acting. I was happily surprised, however, and believe they made the right decision when they decided to use "real" actors for the primary roles this time. As with their previous efforts, this film is a great family feel-good movie. It addresses real issues that we all face, and shows how God can fix anything if we're willing to follow Him. Great message, nice comic relief throughout. Just a great movie that's definitely worth seeing!

FIREPROOF by family4christ
I'm not that great at writing.... and I also don't want to give this movie away.... It's about a married couple who's struggling. She feels the typical female things and he feels the typical man things. Parts of the movie are crazy to watch because you sense the reality of it all. You'll find yourself living a moment with this couple and feel their emotions loud and clear.
Bottom line is it's an Awesome movie! We felt like we were watching the last seven years of our lives portrayed on the "big screen" It was so real. We wonder what movie they'll come out with next that will be our life continued Lol! Also, the main actor did the movie for free, pretty kewl I thought. If you have the slightest interest, go see it... it's better than a good flick!

A Movie of great quality by vententersearch18
This is a fantastic movie. Everyone should go to see this film. It has a great clean story line to it, that is appropriate for the whole family. There needs to be more films just like this one, and we need to show the producers and companies who make movies that this is the type of movie everyone wants to se. A must see. Great for a date, or a night out with the family.

This isn't quite a Hollywood blockbuster quality movie. But if there was an Oscar for "movie most likely to make a positive difference in someone's life," Fireproof would be this year's front-runner. None of the technical deficiencies this movie has (and there aren't many) detract from the story, which is excellent. It is completely family-friendly, though younger children might not understand much of it. This move made me laugh, cry, and think.

Incredible movie! by FamMan
What a powerful movie! I can only think of two reasons why anyone would not give this a "must go": 1) They have a real disdain for God and any part of His message for us, or 2) They have a "holier than thou" attitude and absolutely nothing but what they themselves say is ever right.
As many have said, this movie is for everyone. My wife and I along with our two boys (ages 9 and 14) all enjoyed it and were moved throughout the show. I'm usually a fairly harsh critic of films that proclaim to be "Christian" because they often are family friendly but fall short of ever getting the Gospel across. This movie does not fall into that trap and also deals superbly with marriage and things (sins) in our lives that lead us into the "slow fade". Handles the relevant problem, yet awkward topic of pornograhy in a forthright yet delicate manner.
We watch around 25movies/DVDs a year and this may be my all-time favorite. A must see for all. If you love the Lord, go! If you're not sure, GO!

Fireproof was an awesome movie. I saw it with my children and the story line and content was just what is needed to start a good family discussion about beliefs and the power of God in your life. It was funny and sad at the same time. I will buy this movie when it is released. I will also go again to the theaters to see.
This movie prompted me to get one of the previous movies from this producer -"Facing the Giants." I watched that this weekend as well.
Thank you!

Must go by Abbess
It's so refreshing to see a movie with true marriage and family values. We took our grown and married children to see it. My husband and I have been married for 30 years and enjoyed the depth of emotion the movie envoked. Should be required viewing for all engaged couples.
