The sheer audacity of Fast Five is kind of breathtaking in a metal-twisting, death-defying, mission-implausible, B-movie-on-steroids kind of way. Not complaining, just saying.

Gets lots of mileage from a combination of high spirits, scorn for the laws of physics, readily renewable energy and an emphasis on family values-not those of the nuclear family, but of hell-raising, drag-racing outlaws who genuinely care for one another.

What it all comes down to is a skillfully assembled 130 minutes at the movies, with actors capable of doing absurd things with straight faces, and action sequences that toy idly with the laws of physics.

Big crashes, lithe women and roiling testosterone, not to mention the addition of The Rock as a fire-and-brimstone federal agent ? there's plenty to pull in the (mostly) young male audience.

For Families provided by Common Sense Media

Iffy for 14+

High-octane heist sequel is violent but exciting.

What Parents Need to Know

Parents need to know that this is the fifth in a series of action movies that began with 2001's The Fast and the Furious. This one is more of a heist movie than a slam-bang racing movie, but it's still heavy on violence. Property is destroyed more frequently than people, though many minor characters are shot and killed (one bloodily), and there are some brutal fistfights. Language includes one "f--k" and several uses of "s--t." There's social drinking, kissing between a couple, and many scantily clad women on display and treated as sex objects.

  • Families can talk about the movie's violence. How did it affect you? Does it seem at all realistic? How does that change its impact?
  • How does the movie treat women? Do you think they're included because of who they are or how they look? What effect does this have on a female audience's body image? What effect does it have on a male audience?
  • What makes these characters sympathetic -- even heroic -- even though they steal and destroy things? Can you think of other movies where "bad guys" are the heroes?

The good stuff
  • message true0

Messages: The main characters engage in illegal activities so they can earn enough money to disappear and live comfortably for the rest of their lives. They plan to steal from a Brazilian gangster, but that doesn't necessarily make their crime more acceptable. Although they work together and solve problems, they also create rampant destruction and violence with no consequences.

  • rolemodels true0

Role models: The characters may seem "cool," but they're lawbreakers and troublemakers. They don't act responsibly, and they leave a trail of violence without any consequences. On the plus side, they do value family, and they work together well.

What to watch for
  • violence false4

Violence: Lots of big, powerful guns are pulled, and many minor characters are shot and killed. Not too much blood is seen, though a supporting character dies of a bloody gunshot wound. Some brutal fistfights. Mostly, the movie focuses on rampant destruction, smashing up cars, buses, trains, bridges, buildings, and just about anything else that gets in the way.

  • sex false3

Sex: The main couple kisses often. Also lots of sexual innuendo and many shots of women wearing tight clothing (or very little clothing). Women are treated as sex objects in this movie.

  • language false3

Language: One "f--k" and several uses of "s--t." Other words include "goddamn," "ass," "prick," "a--hole," "hell," "damn," "goddamn," and "son of a bitch."

  • consumerism false2

Consumerism: Plenty of fancy, fetishized cars are on display.

  • drugsalcoholtobacco false1

Drinking, drugs and smoking: The main characters drink beer on more than one occasion, but never to drunkenness.

Fast Five = AWESOME! by xmas07
Awesome action, drive sequences, fight scenes, chase scenes, Vin vs. The Rock, Paul Walker...all AWESOME! WoW I was pleasantly surprised. I planned to see the movie anyway as a Fast Five lover but thought it had the potential to be a little cheesy. Ok, there were a couple of cheesy parts but not over-the-top. The action well overshadows that anyway. I rarely rate movies "Must Go" because not many are worth the price these days so for me to rate this movie "Must Go" it's worth the cash! Plus for the gals....the guys are HOT! And guys there's something for you too.

Don't Leave during credits. by Dr1fter
Wow, A great movie for action buffs. Keeps you on the edge. I didn't think that this would be so good. Better than the others and the end; the real end was unexpected. So maybe another reunion is possible.

The best one in the series!!!! by seanc2k
I loved this movie, and it has the cast from some of the previous movies as well. The Rock is awesome in this movie as the cop trying to bring down Vin Diesel, and his friends in this movie. It has a interesting story, great racing scenes, and the fight scene between Vin and the Rock is really cool too. Watch this movie from beginning to end because it does not disappoint. The first Fast and the Furious was awesome, but Fast Five is great. Also, remember to watch after the credits because it has a surprise teaser that even shocked me.

For those that Love a great action/Racing film that haven't gotten to see this in IMAX I'm so sorry you missed out but ....just go buy the BluRay and a Home theater system you will not be disappointed. it makes immortals look like the 'Hercules" cartoon this is the epitome of what and Action movie should be, have, and consist of Hands F#$#KING Down Story was EXCELLENT, Great character development and the majority of some of the sequences through out the movie were believable, BUT what they did to Brazil in the chase scene was F#$#king epic like nothing I've ever seen before .. EVER .. enough reading this just go get it, turn the volume up and BLOW your mind.
