Fake documentary about exorcisms has gore, strong scares.
What Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that The Devil Inside is a graphic demon possession/exorcist movie presented in fake-documentary style -- much like The Blair Witch Project, Paranormal Activity, or The Last Exorcism. It pretends to be real and has a website that viewers can visit to find out more about the "victims" and their stories. Expect lots of scary and disturbing sequences (especially one that shows a possessed priest trying to drown a baby), jump-out-of-your-seat shocks, heavy blood, and dead bodies. There's also strong language (including "f--k" and "s--t"), some innuendo and sexual banter, and cigarette smoking in one scene.
- Families can talk about The Devil Inside's violence. Is all of it scary? Is it necessary to the story?
- Does the movie seem real? If so, what gives it that quality? Why do you think the "fake documentary" format is popular?
The good stuff
-
Messages: Two young priests try to help people whom the church can't or won't help. To do this, they're breaking the rules, though they continually weigh the pros and cons of their actions.
-
Role models: The main character doesn't do much; she's mainly interested in helping her mother. But two young priests who perform unsanctioned exorcisms argue that they're helping suffering people whom the church has ignored.
What to watch for
-
Violence: In the most shocking sequence, a possessed priest tries to drown a baby during a baptism. Also lots of dead bodies and bloody wounds; a man shoots himself in the face on camera. There are scary, disturbing scenes with screaming, sudden shocks and violence. Possessed characters are twisted up like pretzels. A violent car crash is shown from inside the car. A possessed woman is shown to be bleeding from her vagina.
-
Sex: Some sexual banter and innuendo. A man on the street "checks out" the heroine as she walks by.
-
Language: "F--k" is used about half a dozen times. "C--k" appears once in subtitles; other language includes "c--t," "s--t," "hell," "oh my God" (as an exclamation), and derogatory homosexual slurs. In terms of religious discussion and exorcisms, God and Jesus Christ are mentioned several times.
-
Consumerism: Not an issue
-
Drinking, drugs and smoking: A priest is seen smoking a cigarette in one scene. Another priest is shown with a glass of wine.

This movie was crap. Its a wanna be paranormal activity. BUT way worse. its a documentary based movie that has POOR acting and CRAPPY footage. What you see in the previews is all the action thats in the movie except for one more part that is NOT WORTH paying for. INSTEAD OF WAITING FOR IT TO COME OUT ON DVD, WAIT FOR IT TO BE SOLD AT THE DOLLAR STORE BECAUSE THAT'S WERE IT WILL BE HEADING QUICKLY!!!!!
P.S. I JOINED FANDANGO JUST TO WARN ALL THE VIEWERS. I WAS DISSAPPOINTED AND TRULY ASKED FOR MY MONEY BACK AT THE END OF THE MOVIE!!!

You can pass this one. by rashadxll
So I just left the theater to write this review. The movie was filmed the same way "Quarantine" and "Clover Field" were. So if you have a hard time watching a shaky camera this not for you. The movie starts off kind of slow, like a documentary with a lot of people talking. Which isn't a bad thing, but you would expect a little different from a horror movie. I could tell that the audience was getting bored with this film because they were progressively getting more talkative and getting up constantly. Acting was C- to B-. Not going to spoil it for you but some of the things the "demons" were saying were corny. "I'm gonna suck your ****,". really? this took the suspense away and everybody was laughing. As for the actors most of them were no-name. My main issue with scary movies this day in age is the time length. This was like 1hr and 15min tops. Not my type of film. This movie is rated R. Not recommended for younger audiences as it has some sexual themes and adult content. Rashadxll

Where's the rest of my movie? by Caveman611
The movie starts out as I expected and builds slowly which I enjoyed, but when the movie seems like it is building to a climax, it definitely surprises the viewers but not in a good way. Watching this is like watching half a movie.

Meh... by neal_jeter
The movie had potential but it strongly reminded me of the Blair Witch project. Also the ending sucked and I've never heard so many people "boo" at the end of a film...

The Boring Inside by feraltyger
As with most "horror" movies these days, you'll see about 90% of the more interesting scenes in the trailer. This was a huge waste of money. Slow, unsatisfying followed by becoming slower and aggressively more unsatisfying with a horrible ending. Ever since the Blair Witch wobbly type of faux documentary style of filming, it's gotten completely out of hand. This is the same type of shaky, out of focus filming used in this movie too. Tell whoever keeps thinking this type of cruddy film style to stop already. It became redundant soon after 1999 when BWP came out, and all it does is annoy people and give you a headache. There isn't anything you can see in this movie that hasn't already been done since the first Exorcist movie back in 1973, except in this movie they managed to make demonic possession yawn inspiring. This isn't even a good dollar rental at redbox. I wanted to rush home right after this movie and write a review to save people from getting ripped off.

The Devil Inside by selina_silvers
This movie had some good spooks. For the most part it was ok, nothing special. I am thinking that the same people who made the bunch of Paranormal Activity movies must have made this one. The ending truly SUCKED. It was not worth the money paid. i was very disappointed with it. Movies like this is the reason people get bootleg movies. We pay alot of money to see quality scary movies and each and every time i am highly disappointed. Directors, please go back and try again. Stop the crap with horrible endings or as you would like to think, a cliff hanger. It wont make me go see part 2 like i know you are probably planning. Watch the Final Destination series, then try to give me something worth my money. I do NOT recommend this movie at all. DON'T WASTE your money. Go to dinner instead and make it a BLOCKBUSTER night.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!! by Christine610
My daughter was so excited for this movie to come out but what a HUGE disapointment. We actually went to a "midnight premiere" which we have never done for any movie and it was the worst waste of money we have ever seen. There was one scary part and it was the part they had in the commercials. Besides it was only just over an hour, definetly not worth the $10.00 entrance fee. If I had any idea how to get my money back it would be worth the effort just so the idiots who made this movie didn't get it.

THE WORST MOVIE OF 2012!!!!!! by tia_ichiban
I hate to spoil it for anybody who wants to watch it but let me tell you that the reviews were absolutely correct. It wasnt scary at all, it had nasty parts but not scary. It had too much talking and not enough action. Then as soon as it started to get a little bit interesting the **** ended. All I can do is praise their Marketing and Promotions team cause they really just hyped up a real low budget lame weak movie. I cant believe that movie was that horrible. This was my first movie for 2012 and the worst movie I have went to see in 10 years. I really could not believe that it ended the way it did. I know it was suppose to be a clift hanger but it wasnt at all. It was just a drawn out movie that was quite boring. The movie had been amped up like it is a good movie but in reality its not. Movie sales I know will be high this week but after word gets around about how bad the movie is it will not be as good in the weeks to come.

Uhhhh-No! by erika_supergirl
OK. I want to be fair here.
So I will tell you that a total of 5 of us went to see it and 1 of them thought that this movies was scary.
This is a documentary (which they don't tell you in the trailer) and its kind of a mix between The Blair Which Project (bad camera aiming) and the Exorcist. To me this is just not scary at all, but if you like exorcist movies then you will like this one.
I say don't go, wait for it to come out on DVD, because it has a bad ending....really bad!
If you want to watch it really bad... Watch the trailer, that's all the "scary" scenes" the whole movie is sum to those trailers.

Interesting Topic by jjsays
We saw the trailer and thought, "Why not?". Our family enjoys this kind of genre - the so called "found footage" horror movies - and thought we would give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised. Don't go into it expecting some big budget "SCREAM" type movie. Rather, go in with an open mind about the topic. The idea of possession is very interesting to me having grown up in a Catholic community. If you have experienced the "religious side" of this topic, then I think you'll find the movie more interesting and even enjoyable. The acting was so-so, but the story was definitely believable and left you wondering if this kind of thing could really happen. That to me is what makes it really scary. The ending was typical for the "found footage" genre, so don't go in expecting this to be wrapped up into a neat little bow for you. I actually think the ending leaves you wondering, "so was that real???" We had some interesting discussions about it after.
