Who's in It:
Kevin Bacon, Kelly Preston, John Goodman, Garrett Hedlund, Aisha Tyler, Matt O'Leary
The Basics: They killed his son. BIG MISTAKE! That's when Kevin Bacon decides to make sure everybody responsible gets to be exactly one degree away from him and whatever his weapon of choice happens to be at that moment. He's here to cut footloose and kick some ass, and he's all out of footloose.
What's the Deal? There are revenge movies that take the time to examine the person who's enacting that revenge, pressing you to feel uncomfortable with how much you want to cheer that person's relentless stabbing of evildoers. And then there are movies like this one, where all you're asked to do is go, "YEAH! THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKIN' ABOUT!" when the bad guys get their faces sliced off. Call it dumb or call it cathartic personally I vote yes to both; it sucks, but I liked it but you can't call it boring.
Sequel To: 1974's Death Wish. And yes, there were lots of sequels to that movie in the '70s, but apparently none that satisfied the original novel's author. It kind of makes you want to be a fly on the screening-room wall when he sees how this one turned out.
Words No One Will Use to Describe This Film: Sensitive, subtle, complex, balanced, well-acted, well-directed, well-written.
What's Weirdly Decent Here: John Goodman as a freaky weapons dealer. And this one awesome car chase that plays out like one long shot.
