Dave White
Clerks II Review

Dave's Rating:

… filthy, hilarious dialogue …

Who's in It: Brian O'Halloran, Jeff Anderson, Rosario Dawson, Trevor Fehrman, Jennifer Schwalbach Smith, Jason Mewes, Kevin Smith, Jason Lee, Ben Affleck

The Basics: They stand around and talk about sex and Darth Vader some more — what did you think they were going to do? But wait! There's ambiguity, too, like you ain't never seen before in a Kevin Smith film. Well, OK, Chasing Amy had some of that.

What's the Deal? I'm writing this review from the San Diego Comic-Con, that's what the deal is. And really, those three words are kind of all you need to know about how much I like Smith's movies. I'm a fan, if not a fanboy. And this sequel to his first, iconic indie film from 1994 is as "grown-up" a movie about life choices (if that's an expression that can be applied to Smith) as it can be without annoying the hell out of you.

Askew-niverse Quotient: Very high. All the nerd-tronic stuff that endeared him to his original fans; the filthy, hilarious dialogue; the hetero-/homoeroticism; the Jay; the Silent Bob … it's all back where it should be, and that makes me very happy.

Hot Chicks Who Like Comics: Smith casts his wife, Jennifer, here, as well as Rosario Dawson as a fast-food restaurant manager and love interest. In real life, Dawson is a self-confessed comic-book nerd who's now a co-creator of one herself. I know this because I saw her panel about that very project just yesterday.

Who Wins: What's up with Jeff Anderson (who plays Randall) not being in more movies? He's really funny. Does he have a day job doing something else when he's not being Randall?
