What Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that, like all of Michael Moore's documentaries, this film has a very definite point of view. Moore has come in for criticism about how he handles the juxtaposition of factual analysis and opinion. Viewers need to think about what is analysis and information and what is editorial opinion. The movie's R rating is for language (the worst of which is three uses of "f--k"); you can also expect frequent discussion of death, dying, and hard times. Many corporations are mentioned by name, usually in the context of calling out their misbehavior.
- Families can talk about the essential issue raised by the film -- why is there such a gulf between "haves" and "have-nots" in America? Is the capitalist system irreparably broken?
- Is there such a thing as a truly objective documentary? Do you think Moore is more or less effective at making his arguments by having an obvious point of view?
- Is Michael Moore is one of the best-known documentary filmmakers in America because of the quality of his work or the press coverage he receives from enraging his enemies?
The good stuff
-
Messages: The film offers a clear, concise analysis of the current financial crisis that encourages discussion of the nature of capitalism and the question of how, or if, those in society who are better off can -- and should -- give to and support others.
-
Role models: Viewers meet a number of hardworking Americans coping with tough times with dignity ... and also see acts of greed and conspicuous consumerism.
What to watch for
-
Violence: Discussions of death, dying, and illness; implied threats of violence. Footage of plane crashes.
-
Sex: Some suggestive language.
-
Language: Intermittent strong language, mostly within the interviews that Moore conducts. Words include "screw," "crap," "hell," "s--t," and three uses of "f--k."
-
Consumerism: Not an issue
-
Drinking, drugs and smoking: Some film clips show people drinking alcohol.

Capitalism: A Love Story by sumnerscott
What's wrong with America? Confusing capitalism with Democracy. And confusing capitalism with a free market. Nothing free market about how money buys policy in the US, and how finance and big business runs this nation not for the greater good, but for their own good, and the rest of us be damned.
The media is not asleep, so much as wholly owned by finance and big business, so don't look for accurate reporting there. Michael Moore is one of the few voices for the rest of us, and this nation ought to sit up and listen.

Don't listen to the "no-no's" by justacitizen
I'm pretty sure that all the people who selected the 'oh-no" rating for this movie, are the people Michael Moore made this movie about. Its been said that the truth hurts, well it must really hurt to see yourselves on the big screen huh? I say this because any normal non corporate working "citizen" wouldn't turn down the truth, of the current condition our country is in. Michael Moore was on CNN and he said " that corporate goons spent millions of dollars trying to stop sicko from being released". Now if they will do something that severe, what would stop them from coming on Fandango.com and slamming this movie so you won't see it? Also if what he is saying is boring, untrue, crappy, irrelevant, opportunistic, and whatever else you all said then why would anyone go to the trouble to stop his films from seeing the light of day????? We need change, people are suffering it shouldn't be about money, and cover ups anymore. And I know what your thinking and your wrong, I voted for MCcain.

Take your congressperson to a movie... by truthbe
This is the best movie of Moore's yet. There is no way you could come away from it without agreeing with most of it. Something tells me there are some phony posts on here trying to lower the rating....nooooo, really????

Everyone Go See This Movie by aja3787
This is the best Michael Moore movie yet, in my opinion. As I watched the movie, all I could think was how all of the Rush Limbaugh/Sean Hannity/ Ann Coulter folks will be talking about Moore like he's the problem - when he's not. He sheds light on REAL problems for average Americans. I saw the movie in Washington DC and everyone in the packed theatre looked like an educated or "hip" person - perople who would lean to the left or enjoy Michael Moore anyhow, people who would run from anything O'Reilly, Limbaugh, etc. The problem is that its those AVERAGE Americans; living and dealing with these terrible issues (which have been created by a very small group of powerful people on Wall Street and Capitol Hill) are NOT the people who will see this movie. And this movie is exactly FOR THEM! How the Right is able to portray Mike Moore as an elitist, socialist, communist, Enemy of the People (and how so many people agree with that assessment) is simply beyond me.
Bottom line, SEE THE MOVIE!

EXCELLENT MOVIE, VERY INFORMATIVE AND SHOCKING!!! by TaiC
This movie is not a partison movie by no means.. Its giving you the facts, and if you have ever worked for a company and been laid off, but your company was making $$$ major profits , you left scratching your head wondering why you were laid off.. Then THIS MOVIE WILL TELL YOU EXACTLY HOW THAT WORKS.. There is no disputing this movie, some people don't want to face reality of whats really going on in this country, but the truth is the light. I have seen 3 of Michael Moore movies, and if hind sight is 20/20 he has been SPOT on in his movies.. I am sure anyone that gives this movie a bad review , either works in the banking industry, a hyper partison republican, or just downright ignorant of the facts.. or all of the above. THIS IS MICHAEL MOORE BEST WORK!!

A decent history lesson. by spamtrap
I've been telling people much of what's contained in "Capitalism: A Love Story" for several years so the film did not have as much impact on me as it did on those who have never applied deep critical thought into the world of finance. In this film, Moore illustrates that GREED is the primary component of our capitalist financial system and that the wealthiest 1% of the USA basically run the whole country.... although they also only have 1% of the vote. Moore also gleefully ridicules ex president GW Bush as part of his history lesson, which is accurate, concise, and well written. Small pieces of history we're all at least vaguely familiar with are pulled together into a cohesive story line which clearly shows exactly why the US economy rose after World War II then dramatically crashed in 2008. Moore's final message is that capitalism needs to be replaced... not with socialism as the Republican propaganda machine states Obama is doing... but with democracy. He's right.
