Mr. Crystal underplays his role wisely and well, while Mr. De Niro parodies -- maybe the better word is pillages -- himself and his career with scary gusto.

It's not just that Tony Soprano is richer, darker, cooler, and scarier. The dude gets more laughs.

    ReelViews James Berardinelli

A genial and unremarkable comedy with its share of tepid laughs. It's a significantly weaker offering than its edgier, livelier older brother.

Iffy for 15+

Amusing mob comedy for older teens only.

What Parents Need to Know

Parents need to know that this movie has very strong language (lots of "f--k") and a lot of violence. It may be comic, but it's bloody and in some cases fatal. There are also sexual references and situations, including adultery, some graphic.

  • Families can talk about what determines whether people can change. And they should discuss the way that both Vitti and Sobel are still so tied up in (and by) what their fathers thought of them. If you were going to write a third movie about these characters, what would you have them do?
