In the face of such junk, the idea that Fox would proudly put himself on a punishing regime of severe diet and exercise to get prisoner-skinny-yet-crazy-muscled for the job of make-believe is vanity at best, obscenity at worst.

You almost feel sorry for Tyler Perry, stepping out of his own universe for the first time to try to expand his range and finding himself in something as thoroughly dismal as Alex Cross.

Perry must have felt it was high time for him to try his hand at playing a darker role. But starring in this badly directed, suspense-free film with its unintentionally laughable dialogue does Perry no favors.

One word... Predictable! by ztazmatic
So yeah, I really like Tyler Perry's theater plays and religious movies, I really enjoy them. I really wanted to see him in this type of film to see how he does, but I think I had a hard time since I paid too much attention on his Madea character coming out of him in every scene. I couldn't help but say "ha that's madea", like in the scene where he first confronts mr. Lost guy. I mean it was such a major scene that I barely got excited. I felt it needed way more action, I felt that the villain needed more something, the film itself lacked the edge of your seat feel.

Alex Cross ... This Is Not by Darkola
The Good: Matthew Fox playing the bad guy "The Butcher" did an incredible job, scenes with him in it drew your attention, the way he acted, his expressions, and his plans and the way he executed them. The Bad: Everything else, this movie should have never used the name Alex Cross in it, as its a disappointment to all the books out there that were well written, and to previous movies like Kiss The Girls" and "Along Came A Spider". The story itself was poorly written, the dialogue was terrible to say the least, the acting ... if thats what you called it was below par, and finally the filming of this. The filming was so bad, that in many parts watching it, the movie was blurry, heads were cut off in scenes, and even towards the end, the fight scene, the camera was really shakey, almost as if it were attached to the catwalk they were fighting on, and bouncing all around and being shaken when the fight was going on. I'd give this 1 1/2 stars out of 4 myself, Wait for the DVD. Enjoy :)

Tyler Perry as Alex Cross by jacmacrn
I think TP did a good job in Alex Cross. He challenged himself to do more than the comedy we are used to him being associated with as Madea. He pulled it off. I would love to see him doing more movies as himself. I believe that with his work ethic, he's only gonna get better!

Glad I went because it was great by Chrisinpa
What comes to mind first is my disappointment in the critics for giving this movie such a low rating. I really don't understand it. I almost didn't go because of their reviews and I'm really just now very conscious that if something seems interesting to me I really just need to go see for myself--particularly if it falls in a genre that is intended to be escapist. The movie had a very good "pace" to it--and that's what I enjoyed most. No wasted time. The action had the right intensity and I was surprised more than once (though this is in no way to suggest the overall plot was "deep" or "unpredictable"). I'm probably one of the few people that didn't go because of Perry or Fox (have never seen them in anything) so maybe that helped that I did not know them in any other context---both were very good in their roles. There is good drama and emotion placed just at the right places. In short, it exceeded expectations. Maybe because the critics had them so low going in.

Alex Cross is NOT madea! Furthermore, Tyler Perry is NOT Madea by myers428
This is an AWESOME movie. Not Tyler Perry's usual funny overcome the tragedy kind of movie. You run through the whole range of emotions as he is chasing and bringing justice to a serial killer/ assassin. Parts of the movie were intense....one part was particularly graphic. Because this wasn't Tyler Perry's signature, it was shockingly intense at times. He did an awesome job! He morphed well from the Drama genre to the Suspense/Action genre. Absolutely riveting!

Gawd by marksites
Unless they were intending to be comically cliche with over-the-top bad acting, this movie was nothing but a vehicle for Cadillac/GM product placements. I was frankly insulted by amateurish overall production until I saw what was supposed to be a gruesome killing that was so stupid I and my friends spontaneously laughed our butts off. There was one short but amusing performance by a bit character and she turned out to be the best thing about it. Don't stay home. But do see something other than this schlockfest.

I can understand WHY the critics would say don't go see it, but I thought it to be really good! I had a couple of twists and turns, I was not expecting one part that happened in the movie (I will not spoil it for you) and the ending was totally not expectant. Good work to the writers and to the producers--Tyler I just want you to find different ways of doing the disgusted face. It just reminded me of when you were on Oprah; find different ways of showing your distaste for something--other than that, great job!!

This movie keeps you engaged... by FandangoMike1
This movie was an action packed thriller combined with layers of emotion, suspense, anxiety, and enough twists to keep you guessing throughout. The 'assassin' in the movie was certainly an enigma, one that you watch and cringe at-Matthew Fox delivered a stellar performance as a villain. I thought Tyler Perry did a great job in the detective/doctor role. His emotions, wit, and drive were the perfect combination for the role, and the entire movie flowed seamlessly without distraction from acting as many critics led me to believe before seeing it. The movie as a whole is an excellent piece of work in my opinion, and I would recommend it to anyone I know. One caveat, if you have a weak stomach, some of the scenes can be a bit cringe-worthy, so be forewarned!
