It's not surprising that the remake of the 1986 film About Last Night... is broader, cruder and raunchier than the original. What is surprising it that's also much, much funnier.

A rare remake in that it's sufficiently different in the details to make it of interest to those familiar to the earlier endeavor.

The four leads are enormously likable and there’s still enough sharp, raunchy, sexy humor for me to recommend this version.

Sexy, funny adult romcom gives insight on love, friends.

What Parents Need to Know

Parents need to know that About Last Night is a hilarious remake of the 1986 classic, based on a David Mamet play, that trades in mature sexual themes: one-night stands, relationship woes, breakups, infidelity, friends with benefits, and more. Men and women freely discuss sex acts with friends; one character makes sexist jokes. Expect lots of swearing (from the fairly tame "moron" to various permutations of the F-word) and hard-core drinking and one scene with people getting stoned, plus sex scenes that don't show breasts, backsides, or genitals, but definitely imply specific acts.

  • Families can talk about the film's take on hooking up, relationships, and breakups? Does it add anything new to the conversation?
  • How does the movie portray friendship? What makes them great friendships (or not)? Do they trade on stereotypes of men and women?

The good stuff
  • message true3

Messages: Friendships will see you through breakups. A good relationship requires clear and honest communication, plus heaps of patience.

  • rolemodels true3

Role models: Danny is a good guy, through and through, even if he sometimes has trouble expressing his feelings. Debbie, played by Joy Bryant, is also a decent person with an open heart, and their friends are loyal. They don't always handle relationship situations well, but they don't purposefully hurt others. One character's humor is sexist at times, in one instance calling women who rebuff his advances "lesbians."

What to watch for
  • violence false1

Violence: Some yelling and storming out of rooms. A woman slaps a man, out of anger, and later out of playfulness.

  • sex false3

Sex: Lots of graphic sex jokes, with mentions of sex acts including various types of oral sex. One character constantly talks about how much sex he's having, and how, using colorful descriptions. Lots of passionate kissing in bed with mostly naked bodies, though breasts and backsides are artfully concealed by bedding. Occasional side-views, but no frontal nudity. Some scenes imply sex acts, though they're played for laughs.

  • language false4

Language: Constant swearing, though much is used in humorous situations: "moron," "s--t," "ass," "d--k," "p---y," "bitch" and multiple variations of "f--k."

  • consumerism false3

Consumerism: Many labels flashed and name-dropped, including Sprint, U-Haul, Sony Vaio, the Container Store, Guiness beer, Starbucks, Nokia, Facebook, Krispy Kreme, Popchips, Ziplock and more.

  • drugsalcoholtobacco false3

Drinking, drugs and smoking: Lots of scenes showing adults getting inebriated while out with friends, and sometimes it leads to confrontations and loud public arguments. Two friends share a joint at a party.

Relationships funny??...sometimes by FLASH1465
I rate this a B. The performances were good. Kevin Hart is funny(expected) and the dysfunctional relationship between him and Regina Hall is laugh out loud funny. However the crux of the movie centers on the relationship between Michael Ealy and Joy Bryant and it will get you thinking and talking about your relationship if you are in one (the stages you have been in and will go through). How you got to the point you are at and what comes next. Basically the movie says being in love takes work...It can make you can suck sometimes ...and it can be extremely wonderful. I say go and enjoy.

Perfect date night movie! by pburks
This movie will have you rolling on the floor laughing, sniffing, choking back the tears, nodding in agreement and every other thought that you could have on a date. I loved the rules of the road for dating and the move in drama. Kevin Hart maybe short in stature but hugely funny in todays situational takes on dating. Some areas were predictable but how the viewer arrived was way too funny! Definitely not for kids but great for setting the mood for any date.

Absolutely HILARIOUS by nabragg
This movie does an awesome job depicting the realities of relationships while showcasing antics that make you throw your head back in laughter! I am a Kevin Hart fan, but this is the best I've seen him in a movie! All the actors are great. I want to see it again!

Wonderful movie! by holyghost101
It is funny & real! I know couples like is so crazy. My boyfriend and I laughed through the whole movie. Great acting!!! Go see it for yourself!!

Ehh by Jcenestant
It was a typical romantic comedy. The plot was a little thin and the conflict wasn't really a conflict at all. The highlight of the movie however is Michael Ealy shirtless about 30% of the movie

Hilarious!! by MelKE
This is a must see if you don't mind the crude humor! It is incredibly hilarious!! This is not a movie for kids! It does have lots of swear words, but if you can look past that then you will find this movie so funny throughout the film. All the funny parts are not only in the previews! Love it!!

Funny,Sexy, Romantic movie by Michellepitre29
Funny and hilarious. Kevin Hart and Regina Hall was a perfect couple in this movie, wouldn't advise any young kids to 2 watch this, but definitely a must see

Great Adult Fun by cgconley
Must listen carefully to maximize the benefits of all the rich funny dialouge among the characters. Very funny and raunchy. I would definitely add this to my must-see list.

Gave me the laughs I needed by Bcarraway7612
I thought it was great. The acting was great and I will be buying it when it comes out on Blu-Ray. I laughed a lot and very much enjoyed this movie much more then some of the movies I have seen lately. Go see it; we'll worth paying for tickets and such at the movies.

Kevin Hart funny as usual by roodaddy99
Kevin Hart really made this movie. He was a lot funnier in this one than in Ride Along. Definitely a good movie to see on Valentine's Day. You should definitely go see it if you haven't already.
