Frothy wedding romcom is fun but filled with profanity.
What Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that although this film is fairly charming and no more objectionable, content-wise, than most other Hollywood romantic comedies (that is, if you don't object to movies that fully embrace romcom clichés), there is a fairly liberal sprinkling of swear words (particularly "s--t") and drinking. The message -- that women aren't truly happy if they're always the bridesmaid but never the bride -- verges on being a little overly retro, but since the movie is so frothy, it manages to get away with that such old-fashioned thinking. Star Katherine Heigl was in the hit comedy Knocked Up, so teens (particularly girls) will likely be interested.
- Families can talk about the film's message. What's wrong with being a bridesmaid? Is a woman truly not happy if she's never the bride? How does Hollywood contribute to this thinking? Families can also discuss weddings: Have they become, as one character says in the movie, an industry that capitalizes on romantic ideals? What truly makes a wedding special, if it's not the presents, the fancy dresses, and the over-the-top receptions?
The good stuff
-
Messages: Nothing too bad for the romcom genre, though there are the requisite plot-driving shenanigans: A woman pretends to be someone she's not to land a fiancé ... who happens to be the man her sister loves; a reporter deceives a woman, making her think he's writing about something else when she's actually the subject of his exposé; a woman humiliates her sister at her engagement party. The overall message (that women aren't happy unless they're the bride, instead of the bridesmaid) feels a bit dated.
What to watch for
-
Violence: A woman slaps a man (hard) after he wrongs her; two sisters argue loudly, with one throwing objects at the other.
-
Sex: Deep kissing and making out (on a couch and in a car); sexual innuendoes (e.g. "walk of shame" and hooking up at weddings); a woman stands in her lingerie during a dress fitting.
-
Language: A fairly generous sprinkling of the word "s--t," plus "whore" and "a--hole."
-
Consumerism: Visible/referenced brands include Budweiser (a bottle appears fairly prominently in one scene) and Filofax; the dressing room of Amsale, a wedding dress designer, is shown in one scene.
-
Drinking, drugs and smoking: Lots of drinking at wedding receptions; in a major scene, the two leads get plastered after drinking lots of hard liquor and beer.

Cliche, but I loved it! by Christiefilm
I don't really care what all the critics say, I loved this movie. This movie made me laugh and smile. This movie is not for cynics or for people who take movies too seriously. It is what it is - an unrealistic romantic comedy that charmed me to no end. Oh and by the way, James Marsden is eye candy from heaven. The chemistry between Heigl and Marsden was believable and charming (there's that word again). If you're in desperate need a "girl's night out" - this is the film.

Predictable but fun romp by TvFanatix
I admit it...I am a sucker for chick flicks. 27 Dresses was no exception. Although it was predictable, it was an enjoyable 105 minutes watching a woman deal with the one of the worst possible things that one can go through - to have a sister (a natural rival) win the love of your life, albeit your secret love. This film is not a work of art; however, there are worst things to do with nearly 2 hours of your life.

27 Dresses. by Heather_Renee
I saw this movie last night at a special employee showing at my work, and the four of us in the theatre loved it. It was a very funny romantic comedy that makes you fall in love with Jane. Yes, it was very predictable, but hey, it was still good. I recomend this movie really for anybody. As other reviews have mentioned, it is kind of a mix of other comedies all rolled into one like How to Lose a Guy in 10 days, My Best Friends Wedding, and Never Been Kissed.

GREAT CHICK FLICK by HokieCRV
Great movie. Never a dull moment. Several moments you want to cheer, laugh and even scream out loud at the characters. A movie every woman can relate too. James Marsden - worth every penny!
Katherine Heigl was also very good - different than her Grey's and Knocked Up characters - showed more acting abilities and expressions.
Definitely recommend this movie to anyone looking to escape the real world for 2 hours of pure fun and enjoyment!

Great movie! by breadbag27
I have to say I went into this movie expecting it to be good but it was even better than I thought it was going to be. If you love Romance/Comedies this movie is for you. I went with my wife and we both loved it.

This movie was adorable and a great laugh-out-loud movie. I think this movie had tons of great actors and katherine heigl and james marsden make a great comedic pair. I would definitely go see it again, and I don't say that about a lot of movies. I will probaby end up buying it as well.

Very cute! by girliegirl_23
The movie definitely was predictable, but it was good nonetheless. It would make a wonderful date movie if you can get your guy to sit through what is definitely a prime example of a chick flick. I would absolutely recommend it if for no other reason than the wonderful performance of the entire cast. Katherine Heigl especially did an amazing job bringing out the emotion in the film and getting the audience to identify even when she wasn't saying anything. This is definitely a movie I will see more than once and plan to own once it is released on DVD.
