Zoe Bell Teases Her 'Django Unchained' Character We Never Got to See

Jan 29, 2013

One of the more mysterious elements of Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained involved a masked woman who appeared to have a bigger story we never got to know. Today we’ve got some answers (and some more tantalizing questions) about who that lady was and how she fits into the film as a whole.

Tarantino fans had already concluded that it was actress Zoe Bell behind the red scarf in the feature (she appeared in the filmmaker’s Death Proof and as Uma Thurman’s stunt double in Kill Bill), but the actress confirmed it personally at a recent premiere for Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters.

That wasn’t all she confirmed, though. In a reveal sure to get film geeks salivating, Bell states that she was originally supposed to be far more involved in Django’s adventure.

“There was backstory and there was to be a fight sequence. I don't know how much Quentin wants me to say, but yes, there was originally more than that. But I guess when you're getting such brilliant s--t with Leo [DiCaprio] and Jamie [Foxx] and Christoph [Waltz], you just keep shooting and time kind of got crunchy."

Unfortunately, this appears destined to become a mystery as hotly debated as what was in the briefcase in Pulp Fiction, because Tarantino never actually shot this fight scene and may never reveal who the character was intended to be.

Adding even more to the mystery is Bell’s assertion about why she was wearing the mask in the first place and if there were plans to reveal her true face.

“Yes and there was a little sneaky secret under the mask. Part of my face was missing."

Say what!? A mysterious masked woman who’s missing part of her face got completely cut from the film? Talk about awesome missed opportunities…

What do you think about this new development? Any interesting theories on how Bell’s character was intended to fit into the broader narrative? Start theorizing with us in the comment section.
