The folks at YouTube have released their annual list of the most-viewed trailers of the year, and since it includes trailers for games, movies and TV, we're not all too surprised to see what wound up at the top. In fact, the major property that tops the list of 10 also shows up four times in total, which is perhaps a sign that, these days, people are more interested in controlling their own action instead of watching someone else take the lead.
So, yeah, the game Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 just dominates this list. It placed in the first two spots, as well as spots eight and 10, with everything from a live-action trailer directed by Guy Ritchie (the number-one spot) to a "reveal trailer" to a "launch trailer." Essentially, almost everything Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 put out arrived in the top 10. As far as movies go, the first one shows up at number three and it's The Dark Knight Rises.
Though it's not exactly Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, one movie did manage to squeeze its way onto this list twice, and that was Skyfall, which sits in spots four and nine with two different trailers. The only non-violent trailer on the list is the comedy Ted, from Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane, proving that this year (at least) the ads that received the most attention on YouTube were dark, dangerous, violent and action-packed.
We'll leave it to you to decide whether that's a good thing or not. Meanwhile, we need to get those Avengers a drink to help drown their sorrows for not making the list even though they coughed up this year's biggest moneymaker at the box office.
