Almost every popular movie that fans might want is available on DVD at this point, so consumers have turned their attention to the high-definition versions of their favorite films. Waiting for a studio to release the coveted title you want can be akin to Chinese water torture as weeks pass to months and little information trickles through. The reason the wait is so long is that preparing and putting a film out on Blu-ray is an expensive process, so studios want to make sure they pick and choose the Blu-ray candidates carefully in order to make a profit.
Now one studio is taking the decision-making process right to the people who will be buying the Blu-rays. To celebrate breaking the 100,000 fan mark on its Facebook page, Universal is doing a “Director’s Decision” poll where you can vote for your favorite catalog title on Blu-ray and receive a coupon for $5 off any regular-priced Universal movie on Blu-ray. The choices include Back to the Future, Backdraft, The Big Lebowski, The Blues Brothers, The Breakfast Club, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Lost in Translation, Meet the Parents, National Lampoon's Animal House and Psycho. Since this isn’t a presidential election and more like an American Idol popularity contest, Blu-ray Bob has no qualms about admitting that he was torn between the Dude and Norman Bates, but ultimately went for Hitchcock’s seminal thriller. The promotion expires on May 30, so which title will you choose?
