We've seen Michael Fassbender's O-face, his cry face, his android face, and now we see him with no face in this new still from the movie Frank, courtesy of Coming Soon. Domhnall Gleeson and Maggie Gyllenhaal costar with Fassy in Lenny Abrahamson's movie about a wannabe musician (Gleeson) who "discovers he's bitten off more than he can chew when he joins an eccentric pop band led by the mysterious and enigmatic Frank and his terrifying sidekick Clara (Gyllenhaal)."
The film is loosely based on English comedian and front man for band the Freshies, Chris Sievey, aka Frank Sidebottom (see video below). In character, Sievey wore a Max Fleischer-style cartoon headpiece, which we see Fassbender's character has adopted. Other outsider musicians like Daniel Johnston and Captain Beefheart informed the filmic version of Frank. Jon Ronson (The Men Who Stare at Goats) and Peter Straughan (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, The Men Who Stare at Goats) are the writers behind the project, and Ronson is a former bandmate of Sievey's. You can catch up with a bit of history between Frank and Ron on the scribe's website where there are many great stories.
In case there was any doubt, we can't wait to see Fassbender get a little weirder.
