If you're a longtime fan of the X-Men movies, then this very well may be the X-Men movie you've been waiting for. One that brings director Bryan Singer back to the big-screen universe he helped launch all the way back in 2000, and one that will follow in the footsteps of The Avengers by bringing its most successful characters together for an adventure that's sure to top everything these X-Men have put out so far.
But first, here's the trailer for X-Men: Days of Future Past
So what, exactly, is happening here? Well you've got two different groups of X-Men -- one from the future (featuring the actors who portrayed them in that earlier trilogy), and one from the past (featuring the cast of X-Men: First Class). This film takes place in both worlds, and follows a popular story arc from the comics that involves future Professor X (Patrick Stewart) sending Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) back to the past (within his own body) to help work with the younger X-Men to prevent an all-out war with destructive consequences.
As Singer pointed out on Twitter yesterday, this first trailer (which is very close to the one shown at San Diego Comic-Con back in July) is a bit heavier on character moments since the special effects are nowhere close to finished. Those effects will likely give us a look at the giant Sentinel robots the superheroes will be battling in the movie. We're good with that, though. We've got time. This sucker doesn't hit theaters until May 23, 2014.
What do you think of the first trailer, though? Is this the X-Men movie you've been waiting for?
