You kinda have to expect this when you title your film The Worst Movie Ever. According to Box Office Mojo, we may have a new champion when it comes to lowest grossing theatrical releases of all time. Opening up in one theater in Los Angeles over the weekend and holding two midnight showings, The Worst Movie Ever came away with a disappointing $11, meaning that only one person ventured out to see the film. One person! And that one person may or may not be the actress who stars in the movie, as she was recently photographed outside the theater where it was playing.
So what is The Worst Movie Ever? Written, directed by and starring Glenn Berggoetz, The Worst Movie Ever seems to be aiming for corny cult status with an IMDB description that reads, "A robot alien. Angst-ridden teens. Cleavage-wielding soul takers. A dark overlord. A cross-dressing retard. A pregnant 14-year-old cougar. Macho scientists. Santa Claus. Yeah, this movie has it all." If that doesn't help explain it, perhaps this tagline will: "It may be the worst movie ever, but it's the best sci-fi/action/drama/horror/comedy/musical you've ever seen."
Reacting to the film's weak LA opening, Berggoetz wrote on the film's Facebook wall, "I just received the box office number from LA - ugh." He then followed that up by pimping out its next screening in Virginia: "The Worst Movie EVER! will be showing next Wednesday, the 31st, at the Alamo Drafthouse Theater in Winchester, Virginia, at 11 p.m. If you're anywhere close to the area (it's about an hour west of Washington, DC), please attend! ""
We're not entirely sure if a movie has ever grossed less than $11 at the box office, but we do know that it needs to earn more than $20 to put it ahead of the embarrassing Zyzzyx Road, which made as much back in 2007 when it screened for only six people over the course of one week. Will The Worst Movie Ever make so little money that it will actually live up to its title? Check out the trailer below and let us know if you'd watch it.
