Remember back in 1987 when a public access TV news crew thought it was a good idea to do a paranormal investigation of a famous haunted house live on Halloween night? Of course not, because it never happened. And yet here we have the incredibly rare WNUF Halloween Special, which looks like one of the most authentic found-footage movies ever produced.
Yes, this is an entire movie that's made to look like a VHS tape of a live broadcast from 26 years ago. It's about a small-time TV personality who is joined by a team of paranormal experts as they walk viewers through the history of the Webber House, which was once a grisly murder scene. And as if that didn't already separate it from the legion of low-budget, found-footage horror movies out there, the makers of WNUF Halloween Special went the extra mile to maintain the illusion that this is a historical recording by filling it with commercial breaks advertising products that also never existed. The whole thing looks like it was beamed in from an alternate reality where all of this did indeed happen.
We'll have more about WNUF Halloween Special in the coming days once we get a copy to see if it really is as brilliant as it looks. In the meantime, do enjoy its trailer, and if it looks up your alley head over to Alternative Cinema, where you can buy it on VHS (!) or DVD. Thanks to The Surfing Pizza for the find.
