Director Jonathan Mostow’s sci-fi thriller Surrogates imagines a world in 2017 where people remain in the safety of their homes while remote-controlled, perfect robotic surrogates of themselves go out and do all the heavy lifting. It’s life…only better. Bruce Willis plays an FBI agent who, through the use of his own surrogate, investigates the first murder in years along with his partner (Radha Mitchell) in this adaptation based on the graphic novel by Robert Venditti and Brett Weldele.
Maybe if we didn’t live in 2009 and have to haul our very real behinds to the theaters to see new releases, Surrogates would have pulled in more than $38 million at the domestic box office. Disney is remedying this problem by bringing Surrogates home to you on Blu-ray and DVD on January 26. Both versions contain commentary by Mostow and the music video “I Will Not Bow” by Breaking Benjamin. The BD also has four deleted scenes and two featurettes: “A More Perfect You: The Science of Surrogates” and “Breaking the Frame: A Graphic Novel Comes to Life.” You and your virtual self can debate about who is going to shovel the driveway, brave the elements, go to the store and bring the disc home or order it online and let the not-so-virtual postman bring it to you.
