Rival films are always a fun spectacle to behold. For whatever reason, every couple of years the stars align and Hollywood ends up churning out a pair of films that are basically about the same thing. The surprise hit Olympus Has Fallen (which opened bigger than the latest Die Hard) ahsn't even been in theaters for an entire week, but here we are with the first trailer for its more literally-titled competition for best movie 2013 movie about a President under siege, White House Down.
Directed by disaster movie demigod Roland Emmerich with a script from The Amazing Spider-Man scribe James Vanderbilt, White House Down finds Channing Tatum as a police officer who finds himself caught in the middle of an attempt to overthrow the United States of America. This time around the POTUS is played by Jamie Foxx, though he appears to take a bit of a backseat in the trailer below. We're betting that the final film will have plenty of Jamie Foxx-oriented action, but as of right now Sony is pushing Channing Tatum hard. Perhaps they're doing him a solid considering the actor's 21 Jump Street earned Sony a pretty penny last year.
Check out the trailer below. It may not have the world-destroying scale of many of Emmerich's movies, but if you've got a thing for seeing iconic landmarks get beat to hell, it looks like you're going to have a blast with White House Down. The real question is, of course, can it be a better Die Hard in the White House movie than Olympus Has Fallen? We'll find out on June 28, 2013.
