With a February start date just around the corner, casting rumors for Zack Snyder’s Batman vs. Superman are heating up. We’ve heard speculation for weeks that Wonder Woman will make an appearance in the highly anticipated film, but today we’ve got an even bigger rumor – one sure to make Bat-fans giddy with excitement.
As usual, our pal El Mayimbe at Latino Review has been working his sources for updates. His sleuthing has uncovered the possibility of a new hero joining the fray – none of than Batman’s sidekick Nightwing!
Now, before you run off and shout this awesomeness from the rooftops, keep in mind that this is still a rumor – but Mayimbe’s track record is good enough with these things that we’re willing to report it and see what happens.
According to his trusted source, a casting call has gone out for a “young John Hawkes” type with martial arts skills. Apparently, even a few actors have answered the casting call (although we’re not sure if Hawkes himself was asked to audition – although if you want a John Hawkes type, why not go to the source, right?). Couple this info with the scoop from his source that says Nightwing will be in the film, and you don’t have to have taken advance calculus to put two and two together here.
Mayimbe then makes his case for why this rumor makes sense – citing that the film’s script features a world-weary Batman who had a sidekick (Grayson) that he hasn’t spoken to in years.
Of course, this is all speculation at this point – but I’d be more excited if Nightwing turns up in Batman vs. Superman than Wonder Woman. What do you guys think? Is Warner Bros. using this film as a launching pad for several characters in the way Marvel has in years past or is this all just subterfuge and wishful thinking on the part of fanboys? Watch El Mayimbe break it down below, then share your thoughts with us.
Meanwhile, our friends over at Schmoes Know have tossed out some casting rumors surrounding two other long-in-development sequels: Terminator 5 and Ghostbusters 3. First, for Terminator 5, they claim the roles of Sarah Connor and John Connor are now up for grabs, with familiar names in the running. If true, this would solidify other rumors that this new Terminator would potentially go back even further than the original movie did since both the actors and actresses up for these roles are around the same age.
For Sarah Connor, we have Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones), Brie Larson (21 Jump Street) and Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street), and for John Connor we have Boyd Holbrook (The Host) and Garrett Hedlund (TRON: Legacy, On the Road). Definitely an interesting set of names, and even more interesting is that they're all around the same age. In fact, Hedlund is older than Larson, so expect this fifth installment to go back to when Sarah Connor was young, but also feature a young John Connor. Could the film be taking place during multiple years, and if so will they also be casting an older Sarah Connor? Maybe the young Sarah Connor will time-travel to team up with her future son and we could have a whole weird Back to the Future thing going on. Hey, we dig it, so long as there's no freaky romance between them.
Still lots to figure out on this one.
Meanwhile, in the ever-evolving world of Ghostbusters 3 news, the Schmoes also say that both Jonah Hill and Emma Stone have been offered lead roles in the sequel, which, if true, would mean that they finally have a script they're moving ahead with. Hill and Stone have been rumored before, but hearing they've actually been offered roles is kind of a big deal. Could they be playing the children of the older Ghostbusters? Will they convince Bill Murray to return? Is this movie actually happening now?
Thoughts on all these rumors?
