Yesterday the online world exploded when word broke that Zack Snyder was in discussions with Lucasfilm to develop a solo Star Wars movie inspired by Seven Samurai. While it wasn't Episode VII, the news was still exciting to hear, especially for those interested in the long-term plan for Star Wars. Not only would we be getting a new trilogy of sequels connected to the original franchise, but there would also be these one-off solo movies featuring separate stories that may or may not be connected to the storylines playing out in other movies. It's a fun idea, and doubly so when you realize we may get to see some of our favorite directors tackle these movies.
And that's where Snyder comes in. After his reps shot down the rumors, the original source returned saying Snyder did indeed meet about this movie, and all the hush-hush may have more to do with the fact that Snyder is still very much involved with Warner Bros. on Man of Steel, the 300 follow-up and, eventually, its sequel. So until this all plays out behind closed doors and someone returns with more official news, we'll have to use our imaginations when envisioning what a Zack Snyder-directed Star Wars movie would look like.
Or we can watch this fan-made YouTube video from a few years back that added lightsabers to one of the battles in 300.
