What Is Your Most Anticipated Movie of Fall 2014?

With fall film-festival season upon us, we're already beginning to hear the buzz on a lot of this season's big movies, particulalry the awards contenders. Some of those debuting to great reviews include Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu's Birdman (October 17), Bennett Miller's Foxcatcher (November 14), Jon Stewart's Rosewater (November 7) and the Alan Turing biopic The Imitation Game (November 21). Those are just the movies opening in the U.S. before Thanksgiving. Meanwhile, the Toronto International Film Festival begins this Thursday, so we have more buzz to look forward to very shortly.

As for those prestige pics that haven't been seen yet, we can't wait to see David Fincher's adaptation of Gone Girl (October 3), Jason Reitman's Men, Women & Children (October 1), Dan Gilroy's directorial debut, Nightcrawler (October 31), the Brad Pitt World War II movie Fury (October 17) and Kevin Smith's Tusk (September 19) -- of course we're using "prestige" lightly for that last one.

Add those to the ones we've been waiting a while for, such as the Sundance hits Whiplash (October 10), The Skeleton Twins (September 12), Listen Up Philip (October 17) and Dear White People (October 17) and The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby (September 12), which debuted at TIFF last year. Don't forget the must-see docs The Overnighters (October 10), Keep on Keepin' On (September 19), 20,000 Days on Earth (September 19) and Frederick Wiseman's National Gallery (November 5)

If Oscar bait isn't your priority, this fall is full of great-looking mainstream releases, too. Obviously we've got The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 (November 21) and Christopher Nolan's Intersteller (November 7) to look forward to. Plus Disney's animated Marvel Comics adaptation Big Hero 6 (November 7), the YA adaptation The Maze Runner (September 19), the latest stop-motion animated feature from Laika, The Boxtrolls (September 26).

And there are also the sequels (and spin-offs) Horrible Bosses 2 (November 26), Annabelle (October 3), Dumb and Dumber To (November 14), Penguins of Madagascar (November 26), V/H/S: Viral (November 21) and ABCs of Death (October 31), for those of you who enjoyed their originators.

On top of everything above, though, there's the new version of Left Behind starring Nic Cage. Anybody who says anything else is lying.
