There's no denying that Rodrigo Santoro's Persian godlike King Xerxes in Zack Snyder's 300 was a fascinating character. Not only bizarre and exotic to behold physically, Xerxes' army of beasts and big pimpin' lifestyle inspired curiosity about the enigmatic, golden character. The upcoming 300 spin-off, 300: Battle of Artemisia, is promising that we'll learn more about Xerxes' backstory. In an interview with Collider, the actor shared more about his part in the upcoming film:
"They are working on, right now, trying to explain it, I think they will try to do a little backstory on Xerxes and they will explain how he became ‘the God King,’ which I’m excited about. I don’t know what it’s going to be. I’ve never played a character twice. It’s interesting. I think the challenging thing for me now will be to try to bring something new for the fans, for the audience and for myself just to make it interesting to play it again."
Santoro's Xerxes transformation is no easy task, according to the actor. "I’ve got to be honest, it’s a real hard process to get there, not only working out like crazy, [but also] shaving. I’ve got to shave all over my body. It’s a really intense, bizarre character, so it’s a lot of work to get there." He also shared that makeup takes five to six hours every day, and although it's a very challenging task to take on, he's excited to be playing the golden god once more.
The actor shared that the new shoot starts in July — possibly in Bulgaria — and is definitely more of a spin-off than a prequel or sequel. "It takes place in the same time … While that battle was happening, the one that you saw in 300, there was another battle happening next to it and you will have a chance to see all of that happening and how they interact."

In other sequel news, a new installment in the real-life superhero film Kick-Ass is set to start shooting this summer, and according to Comic Book Movie, the film will be getting a May 2013 release. No confirmation yet if star Chloe Moretz will be appearing in part two as the vigilante badass Hit-Girl, but the website did confirm that there may be an animated sequence in store for fans, created by Kick-Ass comic illustrator and the film's executive producer John Romita Jr. Watch a video interview with Romita below.
