What They Said: Sylvester Stallone Talks Cast of 'Expendables 2' and Rhys Ifans on Being 'The Amazing Spider-Man's' Lizard

Sylvester Stallone has been promising more action muscle for The Expendables 2, including the likes of hero/god Chuck Norris and Jean-Claude Van Damme – which is reason enough for us add "Electric Boogaloo" as a subtitle to Stallone's new movie. If you wanted more meat in this over-the-top stable of manly men, then look no further than Nicolas Cage and John Travolta who will also possibly star for round two. Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger also appear again with pumped-up roles.
For the first installment, Stallone did offer Van Damme a role in the film before he approached actor Dolph Lundgren, but the Muscles from Brussels didn't feel satisfied with what was on the menu for his character. After a change of heart, Van Damme has joined the crew – and Stallone is promising a prominent part for the martial artist. "We’ll have a big showdown between me and Van Damme, which has been anticipated for a long time, so it should be a good one,” he said during a recent interview. The Italian Stallion director spoke candidly, but humorously, about his aging crew:
"We’re trying to work out different scenarios. I like using people that had a moment and then maybe have fallen on some hard times and give them another shot. So we’re always looking for actors like Michael Biehn and Michael Pare. I like those kinds of guys. Someone did it for me and I like to see if I can do it for them. We also need some new blood in there, a Navy Seal-type, because with the Expendables none of them have 20-20 vision anymore. They need some help, man."

Harry Potter star Rhys Ifans will be slipping into Dr. Curt Connors' skin for his role as The Lizard in Marc Webb's upcoming The Amazing Spider-Man. The scientist loses an arm and tries to regrow it through the miracles of modern science, but his experiment goes awry and the serum transforms him into a reptilian humanoid. Cinema Blend spoke to the actor who revealed that we'll be seeing plenty of the good Doctor as a human. "The majority of the time I'm me, I'm a human, not a Lizard," he said. The interview also reveals that initially Webb wanted to use another actor to portray Liz – who stands a whopping 9-feet tall – but Ifans insisted on playing his part all the way through. "I had a green suit on, and then this cardboard head, and these big claws. It was the most fucking insane … Each and every time you see the Lizard, the technology is so advanced now that when the Lizard's eyes move, they're my eyes. If I frown or show any emotion, they're my emotions. That's how spectacularly advanced technology is." Head to Cinema Blend for more.
