Next week, we will be posting a bunch of gift guides aimed at all you movie lovers. In anticipation of those, I'm curious what film-related things you're already hoping to receive this season. There are likely a number of Blu-rays and film books and home theater gadgets and posters and other movie merchandise on your list, but there's probably one thing in particular that you're really wishing for. For me, that one thing would be world peace, except that I don't think there's a single movie in which that exists. And I already have a framed, life-size Time Bandits map, so my pick -- excluding anything that neither my wife nor Santa can manage (like the original painting my father did for Star Wars, which I guess Disney now owns) -- is a 3D television so I can watch documentaries like Cave of Forgotten Dreams and Pina properly at home.
Since I'd like to leave the real movie-related gifts that are hot for this year for next week's guides, here are some ideas of things that movie characters asked for: a Red Ryder BB Gun with a compass in the stock (A Christmas Story); Fraggle-stick car (Bad Santa); your family back (Home Alone); your parents back together (All I Want for Christmas); Keira Knightley (Love Actually); to be Philip Marlowe's girl (Lady in the Lake); Hungry, Hungry Hippos (Donnie Darko); a new life and a day without fear (Who is Harry Kellerman and Why is He Saying Those Terrible Things About Me?); a gorilla named Davy for beating up the skateboard kids (Bad Santa). I guess most of those aren't easily done.
What one movie-related gift are you asking for this year?
