Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story proved to be a rip-roaring success at the box office this weekend, which is a testament to the strength of the Star Wars brand and the wide appeal of the new, scrappy characters. You don't have to be a sci-fi devotee to enjoy how Jyn Erso and company battled against all odds at a dark time for the Rebel Alliance.

Now that those characters have been introduced, however, what about the actors who gave such convincing performances? Check out four of the stand-outs in some of their earlier roles, all available on FandangoNow.

Felicity Jones (Jyn Erso)

The most familiar face, thanks to her Academy Award-nominated performance in The Theory of Everything, Jones also appears in A Monster Calls, out on December 25. She broke out big in the heartbreaking romance Like Crazy as a college student who falls for fellow student Anton Yelchin; Jennifer Lawrence also stars.

Diego Luna (Cassian Andor)

After breaking out in Y Tu Mamá También, the actor has easily moved between Mexico and Hollywood, making both indie and studio movies. He started producing movies about 10 years ago and has also directed his own works. One of his most charming performances came in Criminal, in which he starred opposite John C. Reilly and Maggie Gyllenhaal.

Donnie Yen (Chirrut Îmwe)

Martial artist Yen got his start in the Hong Kong film industry in the early 1980s, eventually becoming a star and directing his own movies. He's starred in a number of remarkable action movies, including Ip Man 3, part of an excellent series about a legendary martial arts teacher and family man. He'll also be seen opposite Vin Diesel in xXx: Return of Xander Cage, out on January 20.

Wen Jiang (Baze Malbus)

In an acting career that dates back to the mid-1980s, he turned to directing as well in 2000 with the impressively ambitious Devils on the Doorstep in 2000. He starred as a villain opposite Donnie Yen in the very good historical action-drama The Lost Bladesman.
