Given that The Expendables 3 is in development and an older (and hopefully wiser – or at least smart enough to hire better accountants) Wesley Snipes is out of jail, it should surprise no one to learn that Snipes is now joining the cast of the third film in the action franchise.
Sylvester Stallone himself took to Twitter to break the news that his Demolition Man costar would be joining the team. “Wesley Snipes joined the crew tonight and that makes me damn happy. Hope Snipes brings his A-game.” That tweet has since been deleted (I’d assume because the “A-game” line could be seen as a bit insulting…), but sources at AICN confirmed that it did indeed come from Sly himself. No word on who Snipes will play, but I kinda hope it’s a bad guy -- because I wanna see the Expendables team square off against Nino Brown.
Stallone is currently working on the script for the third film, and he’s even got a director on his wish list for the new installment: none other than Mel Gibson.
“Mel is a MAGNIFICENT director! Pure passion on every level. We’d be blessed to have him... A REAL long shot, but LIFE is a long shot, right?”
Gibson hasn’t done a lot of work since his much-publicized relationship problems, but yeah, Mel Gibson would probably make a pretty entertaining Expendables sequel. I wouldn’t hold my breath on it happening, but give Stallone credit for daring to dream.
So, what do you think of these new Expendables updates? Are you excited to learn that Snipes is now joining the team? Would Mel Gibson’s involvement heighten or hamper your interest in this project? Which aging action stars are you still hoping are added to the cast? Weigh in below.
