The Week in Movie News: Villain Roles for Jim Carrey and Idris Elba, a 'Child's Play' Reboot and More

Suicide Squad


Keri Russell heads to Star WarsActress Keri Russell is in talks to reunite with her Felicity and Mission: Impossible III director, J.J. Abrams, for an undisclosed role in Star Wars: Episode IX, the final installment of the "Skywalker Saga." Read more here.

Jim Carrey joins 'Sonic the Hedgehog': Jim Carrey, who memorably played DC villain The Riddler in Batman Forever, will continue his career resurgence with another bad guy role in the video game adaptation Sonic the Hedgehog. Read more here.



Idris Elba joins Hobbs and Shaw: Speaking of villain roles, Idris Elba just got another one, too. The actor, previously seen as a bad guy in Star Trek Beyond, will play the main adversary against Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham in the Fast and Furious spin-off Hobbs and Shaw. Read more here.



Child's Play reboot in the works: While a Child's Play TV show is in the works that continues the story of the Brad Dourif-voiced Chucky doll, MGM is also rebooting the movie franchise with a fresh, modern version involving a group of kids who find a "technologically advanced" toy. Read more here.
