Today is a day to celebrate safely the total eclipse of the sun. But after that, we have suggestions for movies to watch to liven up the week.
 

Digital

Rememory (top): The widow of a professor stumbles upon his invention that allows the recording and playing of a person's memory. Peter Dinklage, Julia Ormond and Anton Yelchin star. It will be available to watch via various digital platforms on Thursday, August 24.

 

Blu-rays

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2: The true parentage of Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) threatens to tear the team apart. Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista and Kurt Russell also star, along with the voices of Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel.

Kill Switch: Dan Stevens stars as a pilot fighting to save his family -- and the planet -- after an experiment goes wrong.

Theatrical Releases - Nationwide

Leap!: An animated adventure about a orphan girl who dreams of becoming a ballerina in Paris. Elle Fanning, Dane DeHaan and Carly Rae Jepsen lead the voice cast.

Birth of the Dragon: Set in San Francisco during the 1960s, the action drama revolves around a legendary showdown between young Bruce Lee and kung fu master Wong Jack Man. Philip Ng, Yu Xia and Billy Magnussen star.

All Saints: John Corbett stars as a new pastor who is ordered to shut down a tiny church but instead decides to start a working farm. Cara Buono, David Keith and Barry Corbin also star in the inspiring, real-life drama.

Friday, August 25: Death Note (Netflix). An American version of a Japanese manga about a high school boy who obtains a book that empowers him to kill anyone. Nat Wolff, Margaret Qualley, Lakeith Stanfield, Shea Whigham and Willem Dafoe star. Adam Wingard (Blair Witch) directed.

Friday, August 25: Disjointed (Netflix). Kathy Bates stars in the sitcom as the owner of a cannabis dispensary in Los Angeles.

Friday, August 25: The Tick (Amazon). Live-action adaptation of a comic book series follows an accountant and a superhero.

 

Historical Fun Fact

August 23, 1965: The Sound of Music was released, starring Julie Andrews. It proved to be a smash hit and won five Acaddemy Awards, including Best Picture.
