Two brand new trailers to share today, so let’s get right to it.
First up, the newly retitled People Like Us (which was formerly known as Welcome to People) – the directorial debut of screenwriter Alex Kurtzman (Star Trek).
This dramedy starring Chris Pine and Elizabeth Banks (with Michelle Pfeiffer in a supporting role) looks like a romance, but it’s actually not. Banks and Pine appear to be the perfect leads for a romantic comedy, but the catch here is that they’re siblings – only Banks doesn’t know it. The two stars share a father, and when he passes, he tasks Pine’s character with delivering a huge inheritance to Banks’ child. From there, all the dramatic complications start, eventually leading to an emotional resolution and all the stuff you’d expect in a touching Hollywood drama.
The clip isn’t bad (it lays on the schmaltz pretty heavily, though), and maybe the burgeoning non-romantic relationship between the two leads can take the film into new narrative territory. We won’t know for sure until People Like Us lands in theaters on June 29th, but you can get a feel for the film by checking out the trailer below. [via THR]
Switching gears a bit, we’ve also got your first look at the upcoming animated feature Rise of the Guardians.
This family-friendly entry from Dreamworks has Santa, The Tooth Fairy, The Easter Bunny, and Jack Frost teaming up to protect the world’s children from an evil villain known as Pitch.
Featuring the vocal talents of Hugh Jackman, Jude Law, Chris Pine, Alec Baldwin, and Isla Fisher, Rise of the Guardians looks set to take the box office by storm when it opens this November. Check out the clip below and let us know what you think. Who knew Santa sported tats? [via JoBlo]
