Peter Weyland from Prometheus

Yesterday, we brought you an update on Ridley Scott’s Prometheus – information highlighting how the upcoming film would tie in with Scott’s classic Alien. The gist of the story was that Guy Pearce would play Peter Weyland in Prometheus – and as astute fans realize, Weyland-Yutani was the name of the corporation that sent the Nostromo on its ill-fated voyage in the original Alien, and Peter Weyland is one of the men who runs it.

Since that news came directly from Ridley Scott (but had to be translated from a Hungarian interview), we took the info with a minor grain of salt – but today’s update seemingly indicates that the translations were accurate. Plus it’s just really cool.

A new video turned up on YouTube – a TED Talk from the year 2023, featuring none other than Peter Weyland talking about mankind’s past and future as well as his own ambition.

The piece, which will not appear in the actual film, was directed by Luke Scott and overseen by writer Damon Lindelof and Ridley Scott.

We don’t want to spoil anything else about it (it’s best experienced for yourself), but we love it. Guy Pearce is fantastic in general and he seems perfect in this part. If you weren’t already hyped up for Prometheus, this should help get you there. June 8th can’t come soon enough.

When you’re done viewing the clip, check out the official TED page for the talk, which features more info on Mr. Weyland and links to a TED chat with writer Damon Lindelof.
