Guy Ritchie’s 2009 film Sherlock Holmes was one of our favorites of that year. Ritchie and Robert Downey Jr. reimagined Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic detective in a way that might have offended some purists (we don’t recall Holmes ever being a brawler in the books…), but worked really well for a new generation of film fans who weren’t familiar with literature’s most famous sleuth.
Clearly, the reimagining worked with audiences, as Sherlock Holmes made a lot of money at the box office and has spawned a sequel due out this December.
Today, we get our first look at a brand-new trailer – featuring not only loads of action and comedy from stars Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law, but one that also gives us a good look at newcomers Noomi Rapace and Jared Harris as the villainous Moriarty. Plus, it’s got a copious amount of RDJ in drag…what more could you want?
The new clip has us even more excited about the sequel. Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows faces some stiff competition at the winter box office (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo remake and the new Mission: Impossible), but based on the strength of this trailer, we think Holmes will be able to hold his own in the cinematic battle royale.
Don’t just take our word for it, though – scroll down and check out the trailer for yourself, or aim your browser toward Apple Trailers for a sexy HD version.
