Love filmmaking? Then of course you want to delve into the mind of indie-film icon, slacker cinephile, and DIY favorite Richard Linklater. Tumblr all-star Cinephilia and Beyond spotted a lecture with the director, which starts off with a discussion about storytelling and dives into his thoughts on writing, the industry and other methodologies.
The talk has a great casual tone, mirroring the laid-back filmmaker, and is part of Fox Searchlight’s Searchlab lecture series, meant to take us inside the minds of great directors working today. It’s about 40 minutes long, but it makes for great lunch/dinner-break viewing, and Linklater has yet to disappoint with his candor about the filmmaking process. He’s quick to let us know that he thinks the term “independent film” is lame and that criticisms about his “no story” narratives drive him nuts.
