Watch Out: Watchmen Gets Even Longer

Watch Out: Watchmen Gets Even Longer

Sep 23, 2009

Who’s watching who's making The Watchmen? Warner Bros. has already given us the theatrical cut, director’s cut, Watchmen: Tales of the Black Freighter and Watchmen: The Complete Motion Comic all on both DVD and Blu-ray. The director’s cut is already a butt-challenging 186 minutes and loaded with enough extras for a legion of fanboys. But for those who want to put in half a work day watching a single movie, Warner Bros. has bumped up the release date for its Watchmen: The Ultimate Cut to November 3.

This 215-minute (!) opus interweaves the Tales of the Black Freighter animated story with the director’s cut. In fact, the four-disc set is really all of the Watchmen discs mentioned above integrated into one mega-movie. Aside from the longer version, the only real new additions are commentaries by director Zack Snyder and Dave Gibbons and some video journals previously only available on the European theatrical cut BD. Blu-ray Bob still maintains that if you are going to take on a four-hour movie in one sitting, you’d better have the patience of Dr. Manhattan and his buns of steel.
