Watch: New Trailers for 'Underworld: Awakening', 'Trespass', and 'Red Tails'

Aug 18, 2011

Boring Thursday morning at the office? TPS reports got you down? Here are three new trailers guaranteed to get you at least 6 minutes closer to the end of the day.

It’s been a few years since we had a new Underworld flick (the last was Underworld: Rise of the Lycans – which was a prequel with Rhona Mitra taking over for Kate Beckinsale), but apparently someone out there still likes these movies, so here’s the first trailer for the latest installment, the imaginatively titled Underworld: Awakening.

If you’ve seen one Underworld film, you’ve basically seen them all – and this newest entry looks to continue that trend. All the important points are covered: everything shot with a hazy blue filter? Check. Kate Beckinsale in a skintight black bodysuit? Check. Gibberish about Death Dealers and Lycans? You betcha. Crazy The Matrix-esque action scenes? It’s in there.

We couldn’t even begin to guess how this film will perform at the box-office, but if you held a stake to our heart and forced us to offer a prediction, we’d say it will have a decent opening weekend and then head immediately to DVD. We’ll see if our crystal ball was right when Awakening hits theaters next January. Until then, enjoy ogling Beckinsale in her painted on catsuit in the trailer.

Nicolas Cage and Nicole Kidman have both won Oscars, so putting them together in a movie should add up to something really special, right? The key word there is “should,” but when you factor in direction from Joel Schumacher, all bets are off. Such is the scenario we find ourselves facing with Trespass (no, not the Denzel Washington and Ice-T movie where John Lithgow goes psycho…), a new thriller which finds Cage playing a rich family man sporting silly looking glasses and a goofy haircut whose family is subjected to a vicious home invasion. Sometimes we look at Cage and wonder if he was really in Leaving Las Vegas or if that was all just a dream. Trespass looks highly unlikely to remind us of the Cage of old – you know, the one who actually acted – but we’ll find out for sure when the film invades theaters this October.

Finally, we close with the latest clip for Red Tails, the George Lucas’ long-in-development WWII film. The feature, which was directed by Anthony Hemingway, tells the tale of the Tuskegee Airmen -- a group of African American fighter pilots during WWII. Given old planes and dangerous missions, the men rise to the occasion and play an important role in the Allies victory during the war.

We’re a little concerned about a film giving Cuba Gooding Jr. top billing (he shares it with the more reliable Terrence Howard, at least), but the aerial dogfights in the new clip are pretty amazing (and slightly reminiscent of Star Wars). Red Tails will fly into theaters on January 20th. Hat tip to MTV for sharing.
