Confession time: until these two clips were released, we had no idea Michael Cera and director Sebastian Silva (The Maid) had two films at this year's Sundance Film Festival. We originally thought Crystal Fairy and Magic Magic were the same movie that just swapped titles, but indeed they are two, and both will be arriving in Park City, Utah later this week. While Magic Magic is more of a psycho thriller about Americans traveling in Chile, Crystal Fairy looks to be a road-trip comedy about a group of friends in search of the ultimate high from a legendary hallucinogen called the San Pedro cactus.
Rumor has it these two films were originally supposed to be one, but when financing dried up on the first, they began the second and then returned to the first when the money came back. Here are two clips from Crystal Fairy, what we imagine will be the quirkier of the two. Essentially, these two movies mark the return of Michael Cera, who's sort of been missing in action ever since Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. It'll be interesting to see if these two movies either return him to form, or send him down a new, exciting acting path that he can explore more in the future.
Note: Both of these clips are slightly NSFW and feature foul language.
