Matthew McConaughey

If this whole acting thing doesn’t work out for Matthew McConaughey, or he just wants to find a side gig, we think he might have a future in motivational speaking and coaching football.

The Interstellar actor paid a visit to his alma mater, the University of Texas, to speak with the school’s football team. McConaughey makes it clear early on that he doesn’t want to give some sort of rousing speech, but that’s basically what winds up happening anyway – just in the way that only Matthew McConaughey can do it.

The actor stands in the sweltering Texas heat and talks at length about looking in the mirror and asking yourself why you do the things you do – and about how you should always be aware of that and focus on doing your best work in any given situation. The speech is essentially a standard self-help 101 thing, but McConaughey brings his own inimitable flavor to it. That’s why you’ll be ready to find a mirror then run through brick walls when it’s over.

It’s not all rah-rah motivation, though. The actor does manage to open up about his favorite role (Mud) and reveals how the crazy chest-thumping scene made it into Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street. That’s a pretty good story.

Check out McConaughey being McConaughey above, and his other famous football speech below. This one, however, is from the movie We Are Marshall.
