"I've done one of the biggest challenges you can do in Hollywood, which is transition from being a comedic actor to being a serious actor, and I'm really prideful of that," Jonah Hill
said in an interview
last year. His latest crossover role for Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street
won him a third-time hosting spot on SNL
over the weekend. All seriousness fell to the wayside.
In the actor’s opening monologue, he brags about his career and his part in the new film, but everyone’s more interested in his costar Leonardo DiCaprio. Leo surprises Hill onstage, which humbles him — and then things get hilariously weird. “Can we do the thing we always did every day? The thing that always made me feel safe?” Hill asks Leo. Cue the cheesy Titanic soundtrack. We don’t want to spoil the whole thing for you, so give it a watch.
Also check out Hill’s performance in a skit ripping on Spike Jonze’s Her. It felt like the SNL writers were taking forever to tackle this one, but they finally cast Hill as Joaquin Phoenix’s socially awkward Theodore Twombly, who falls in love with his computer (played by Scarlett Johansson). They give the gag away too early for maximum funny, but if you want to see Hill whispering wistfully about testicles then this is probably your jam. A surprise guest shows up to help Hill out. Find out who it is, below.
